For those of you that got to see the pics in Part 1, you got lucky. For the rest of you, look for them in the Canada/Mexico issue of Muley Crazy due out soon.

I first saw MassNTrash the winter of 2001/2002. He was a 5x4 with a nice inline on his one side. I figure he was 3 years old. This was the only year I saw him often. I found his inline side that spring not far from where I was watching him.

The winter of 2002/2003 was very very mild. There was virtually no snow and the bucks didn't come down. They wintered at mid to high elevations and wintered good. So I didn't see hide nor hair of MassNTrash that year.

The winter of 2003/2004 I caught MassNTrash one evening in Dec and that was it. He disapeared and didn't show himself again. It was just before dark, I had a crappy video camera filming through my spotter and the footage is really bad. He had inlines and extras on both sides. I knew he was over 200 inches, but that is about all I knew. I looked hard for his sheds that spring to no avail.

The winter of 2004/2005 I caught MassNTrash on the exact day I had seen him the year before. Again, just before dark. I got some rough footage of him but not what I wanted. The next morning I caught him up feeding and got some half decent footage through the spotter. He feed for a couple of hours and then went into a patch of conifers never to be seen again. I searched high and low that spring and came home again empty handed.

A week to the day I found his 2005/2006 set, I went into that same area and thought I'd have a look for his previous sets. With the rodents and thick timber I thought my odds were slim at best but I found a couple old green sheds, so I thought maybe at the very least I'd find some other tine. I was combing back at forth and something caught my eye about 40 yards downhill from me. The Binos came up and the white of a chewed shed came into view. I walked over to it and almost died.

I could not believe I had found MassNTrash after over a year of looking hard for him. He's chewed up pretty bad but that's shed hunting in this part of the province. Even if I had of pieced the puzzle sooner, he'd probably still been chewed. Something about that 'Fresh' tine that those rodents just love.
I started circling, thinking that with that heavy weight there is no way he'd pack his other side far. But, this timber is thick so I came home without the match.

The next weekend I went out with one focus, and one focus only, to find that match. I went into the timber and headed for the location I had found the chewed shed the week previous. I approached the spot from a different angle and low and behold there was the match less than 50 yards from where I found the chewed shed. Less than 30 minutes of looking and I was stoked!!!!

That is one impressive buck and story to boot, thanks!

Now the obvious question, are you hunting him and if not why?

Buckmania,
He has been one of my main targets for the last couple of years. Last season I decided to go for broke and passed up a bunch of 'Monster Muleys' in the pursuit of MassNTrash. Some would say I was foolish as I ate tag soup, but when you know there is a buck of his caliber in the area, it's hard to pull the trigger on just your average mid-180's buck. ;)

WOW!*&^#(^(*&$^#^$ pretty awesome man... a buck of dreams for sure... if anyone deserves him, you do.. Would be nice to finish the legacy of that buck.. thanks for sharing.

You need to go find the rodent that is responsible for this and kill it dead. Nice set

Hornhound,
For some Gawd unknown reason, squirrels have no open season here(they probably taste like spruce needles). With all the talk of unethical practices on this board as of late, I'd hate to go down due to a skinkin' timber rat. Could just see some overzealous CO take me out with allegations of a bag full of squirrel tails being sold to the black market trade of 'Fly Tying' :) Just could see the board lighting up now, "BCBOY charged for Game Violations" LMAO!!!! Even if a guy could kill them here, it would be a loosing battle. There are literally millions of those little bastages out there.

Way to go BCBOY! That is an awesome buck. Hopefully his shedding grounds will give some insight to his hiding grounds.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-21-06 AT 02:42PM (MST)[p]Are you serious that you can't shoot squirrels up there? They are friggin rodents for crying out loud!

I'm assuming you are after the double main beam one too---goodluck on finding them this year, it would be a fitting ending to this story with the sheds and all.

Actually, my #1 target this year is a buck I've got no sheds off of and no video of. I saw him for a total of 5 seconds max last Oct and that has scared me for life. I know he wasn't MassNTrash as he had huge massive deep forks and cheaters, lots of cheaters.

Wow, I just can't get over the mass on those things. I'm also happy that I get to work early in the morning and get on MM right away, so I got a peek at the other post.

UNREAL! You shoould send those down to a good taxidermist and have them repair them for you, it would be well worth it

Just out of curiosity, is hunting in Canada like here (i.e. regions split up into units and limited tags for premium areas)? I've never read up on it and don't know much about Canada's hunting regs.

Every province has their own way of managing wildlife, just like in the states. Here in BC we are broken up into 8 different Regions and each region is broken up into many Management Units. There is no limited entry for mule deer, as everything is over the counter general seasons. Seasons and bag limits vary and are regionally and locally set for each area. The kicker for you is all non-resident aliens are required to use a licenced guide outfitter.

That is one of the more incredible bucks I've ever seen. This shot says it all.

Good luck on finding him some time on the hoof during hunting season!

Cheers,
Pete

The same day I found the final 2004/2005 shed, my buddy found MassNTrash's 2003/2004 matched set laying on top of each other. The rodents didn't leave us much :( but the mass and the extras all seem to match as does one small point off the base. At least I now know I don't have to continue scouring the timber looking for that set and I can say I have 4 years off of him.

Every seven miles of hard hunting you should see a buck
I guess I'm gonna have to figure your oct, schedule BCboy LOL

You definately have the big muley Meca up there.Damn those rodents would piss me off! I would be taking a little .410 shotgun with me on my shed hunt trips and blast every squirell/rodent I see :)

LMAO!!! It would sound like a warzone. In this country you'd go broke on ammo long before you'd make a dent in the population.

WOW that is a pig.....great job BC really the mass on that shed is insane ur the man.... it looks like ur shed huntin in alberta or maybe montana just guessing cause of the keep forests and the dirty rotten critters but what can u do... great job good luck love lookin at ur posts.

Hey it's nice to see you back postin' some pics, thats some sweet lookin' bone there.
congrats on findin what you were looking for it doesn't happen that often where I'm from someone's always lookin at the same bucks.

Droptine,
This is the 1st year that I've ever held back on the pics. You post on the internet long enough and people are bound to start seeking ya out. I guess those bucks my buddies killed last year really stirred up the pot and everyone and their dog is trying to figure out where I hunt. Funny thing is, most areas of the province are excellent for Trophy caliber bucks if you actually get off your butt and do your homework. But most hunters have that typical mindset of jumping from one so-called hotspot to another because they heard someone killed a big buck there. I live in a small town and therefore many jump to the conclusion this is where the big bucks are. The fact of the matter is there are hundreds upon hundreds of miles of logging roads in this area that I travel on a daily basis for work. My hidey holes could be anywhere.

Ya I know what you mean about holdin' out on the pics, I like sharing with all of you but with all the people anymore I just don't like putting everything on the internet so I too have really held out this year with the pics.
Good Luck and hope you find some more good bone.
Later,
Foster

I gotta give it to you guys. Especially you, BC Boy. You guys have some serious persistence to keep going out and searching for matched sets. Not only that...several years from the same buck. What are the odds? That is a sweet buck and I sure hope you can put a hole in him.
