On the east coast, mussels have been popular for many years. Where I was raised In NJ, many of the places that served pizza also sold mussels.

My aunt lived in Esat Northport, LI & we would often visit on summer wekends. A common outing was to a wooden pier near Huntington for crabbing & mussel gathering. We used wire traps for the crabs & just picked the mussels off the pier supports.

Where is a good place to buy mussels? (Inland)
I really like them but my bride won’t touch them

Check the seafood counter at your local market. They sell fresh live ones at the Safeway here in PHX. I also use the ones that come frozen in the closed whole shell but open when heated. I can't tell the difference in taste.

My bride is like yours. The only shellfish she eats are shrimp.
