Can you say 'Major Skull Fracture'? Found this 'half a rack' today. Interesting no doubt. Wonder what happened to this Bad Boy? The other side is missing. Figure it's probably under the snow close by. Looks like it was ripped right out of skull. No evidence of cougar. The fins are still intact and no teeth marks. Hopefully I can find the other side in a few weeks. He's probably pretty close to being a 200 incher. This side scores 88 3/8. Definately a Sweet Find. :)

Awesome find. Too bad he won't be around for you to take a crack at this fall. Hopefully he passed those genes on before the lightning struck. ;)

Could have been hit in pedicle or very base of antler with high powered bullet? Mabey didnt seperate all the way initially, but the weight of antler caused it to fall, and ultimately death of buck from brain injury or even infection. Would be interesting to know if you can find the other side. Quite the "crime scene investigation"
I have found several lion kills with some pretty bad skull crushing injuries, but most are more to side of face and eye socket. This looks a little different.

Bittersweet,
I highly doubt it is a bullet as not too many guys hunt this area. I did miss a dropper buck in the area in 03 but his dropper was much bigger. Missed a dropper buck in the same area in 02 too, but his dropper was on the other side. Geeze, I got to stop missing those dropper bucks eh?
I'm leaning towards the theory of getting $hitkicked by a much bigger buck. :)

I hadnt even thought of another buck, but once I think about it, that probably is a likely scenario. I have seen a couple good fights over the years (not just sparring, flat out fights) The strength behind two mature bucks is amazing. I am sure if they were locked temporarily in the right position, I could see a break happening similar to what this guy has.
Hope you find the other side, and the culprit who did the damage (if there is one)!

BCBoy, I couldn't resist fatrooster's sasquatch comment! lol...seriously, that's a great find!

Nice Find! Yep, gotta wonder! SOme vid I saw, maybe mulie crazy, mayeb Lowland Mulies, cant remember, had a buck walking along and his horn was just dangling, but still attached to skull. The pedicel had broken at the skull plate and the whole outfit was just hanging and the deer was just walking along like nothing was wrong! Dang!!!!

Love the Yeti illustration! I always wondered where all the horns I"m supposed to find end up. Some dam yeti has them stashed in a cave somewhere!

Nice find BC! Looks like it may have been caused by an attack of the Northern Box Turtle but hard to say for sure.

Cleaner, that is freaking funny.

The buck with the dangling antler was in lowland mulies and it did break inside the skull.I couldn't believe that it was still acting fine. Probably what happened to this buck too.

I have a whitetail antler that has 2 inches of bone attached. My brother saw the buck in late Nov with the antler hanging by a thread of skin. A week later the antler fell off. That was two years ago and the buck is still alive. The last two years he has grown a normal antler on the unbroken side and a freak antler on the side he broke off. It realy messed him up. He looks to be blind in his broken side Eye and it look like someone took a base ball bat to the side of his head.
