Looks like the ATV was the primary mode of transportation. Put the habitat first.

HIKE NOT BIKE

Any day you want to go hiking send me a message we hike over 15 miles this day. READ FOUND FROM ROAD I swear some people.

Hey, how can you get all defensive when your own photo shows the matched pair laying right next to the ATV tire. No roads in sight. Some of your other photos show your buddy in ATV gloves, shorts and flip flops. That's a tough man that can hike 15 miles in flip flops.

Please prohibit ATV's from public lands from April 1st-March 31st. The crowd has demonstrated they cannot be contained. I apologize to the honest folks who would not ride off road, but the damage caused by the people who will not obey the law is too much. Complete prohibition from public lands (on the road travel or not) is the only law that could be somewhat enforced...and it is time.

The ATV is the biggest reason for the decline in mature buck numbers across the west as there is far too much access on every mountain range. The only choice game agencies have is to severely limit tags to grow big bucks when there is the kind of road densities we have today.

As far as shed hunting goes, ATV riders scar the landscape, destroy vegetation and put a tremendous amount of pressure on wintering deer. Also, it is plan cheating. People who respect the land and deer (and also the law) are getting cheated out of finding antlers because of people riding cross-country griding the sage. I do not know whether the people in this post were riding cross country to find these horns, but i know plenty of others do. I have come across evidence (in the form of ridiculous ruts and crushed sage paths) of illegal ATV shed hunting in every area I shed hunt. Yes from the Book Cliffs (maybe the most ridiculous abused area) to the Arizona Strip to the Wyoming winter ranges people employ this sickening tactic to pick up horns.

30buck - It would be great to go out hiking with you. I was only stating what I seen in the pictures from your posts. ATVs, no packs on your backs, flip flops, shorts, and cross trains. You said ?close to the road? and not from the road. What is close 100 feet 100 yards or several hundred yards? If you did 15 miles in a day then that is great. I am only good for 7 or 8 miles in an extreme day of shed hunting.

The main point and concern that has been discussed to great length on this forum is to keep the ATVs on the roads. Pinenut hit all the major points and issues concerning this on this thread.

HIKE NOT BIKE is my motto!!!!!!!

Blah, Blah, Blah, All anybody on this forum can do is whine and ##### about everybody destroying everything in sight! Those are some good horns and I would go hike 15 miles any day with you. I would go ride my wheeler all day too! It doesnt mean I am breaking the law in any way.How many whiners on here have wheelers of there own?

LAST EDITED ON Mar-20-07 AT 10:42PM (MST)[p]It's not even worth talking about, my pack is a 2200 badlands would you like a picture? Next time I'll radio my buddy tell him to go to the ATV/Rhino get the camera and come take a picture with my pack on right were i found the shed. The truth be known i think when he spotted the horns we were moving to a different place on ATV/Rhino's to HIKE and yea he did go about 20 yards into the brush to pick them up oh yea i rode the RHINO over there to. As for the guy in flip flops not only is he tough as hell he is crazy to. We kept telling him to put shoes and a shirt on but he just wouldn't have it. CRAZY I will go hiking with you guys, but we can't go to this spot it's a secret, but good try you almost had me. Funny how a little controversy will get a post going.

Agreed with everything you said good points. Most sensible people that pay lots of $$$ more these ATV's now day's knows how bad that is for you machine as well as the deer and vegetation.

30buck - It is worth the discussion. Show me the 2200 Badlands with antler hangin, because I would love to see it? I carry a camera (what are the a 1/2 pound) everywhere I go, because you never know what you will encounter. The ATV/Rhino argument only proves the point. Show us the pack, no flip flops, no ATVs, and some ATL pics. If "CARZY" (a.k.a. Lobsterboy) is picking sheds from hiking then he would have white stripes on the shoulders from the pack.

and get out

Everybody knows you are guilty just admit it! 15 miles a day wow you guys must be some real marathon hikers! (YEAH RIGHT)

gay gay gay gay how about we all manage ourselves report others for doing wrong, stay on the roads and hike off of the roads. I think i'm going to make a hat that says i hike and bike cuz i do. i own a wheeler and use it put only on the roads so i am a criminal. pinenut you did make good points things need to change but by banning wheelers isn't the key. because if they are riding off the roads now the'll still be riding their bike even if there is a law. fines need to be made and with the help of sportsman they can be enforced. and as far as decline of deer numbers it's not from the wheelers it's loss of winter range due to roads freeways and houses.

"SAY NO TO BIG ANTLERS"

that and some of you should go work as crime scene investigators. tan lines, gloves, flip flops, no back back evidence. wow you guys really study this stuff

"SAY NO TO BIG ANTLERS"

Apparently you guys grew up in some city and probably have only been hunting, shed hunting, and scouting for maybe the last 2-3 years. BUDDY i grew up in the heart of it and have been at this ##### a long time. I'm not going to explain our trip hour by hour to prove we hiked or didn't hike. Just because we found horns and you don't when you go out don't get pissed. A few points look how flat the terrain is not that hard walking flip flops or not. Maybe we spent more than one day HIKING, maybe you think your cool because you made a hat that says hike don't bike, maybe every time somebody puts something on a MM post that somebody else is jealous of the post some how turns negative, maybe we hiked our butts off and road the ATV/rhinos into the trees/brush enough to hide them so other's (like yourself can't see were we are) maybe we set around in the sun for a while one day at 6000 or so feet and got pretty sun burnt, or maybe just maybe you have no idea what happened on OUR trip so you just assume things because maybe now mind you I'm just assuming that MAYBE you can't find any horns and your jealous.
Jealously jealously jealously it is the beast that has the most power in all of us. Oh look don't know which day it was, but found a picture of me with my pack. Got to the love pack. Oh and I'm taking a break right here probably only about 2 miles in at this point.LMAO
460151e23453b017.jpg

thats all it is 30buck everyone calls everyone else out on everything on this sight. tough guys behind computers if anyone posts a picture these crime scene investigators on this site break it down and call it photo shopped or something like yourself instead of just enjoying the photos for what they are worth. you hit it Jealous!!!! hopefully the backback proof will help them with their investigation with the calculations on how far you walked and how far you rode. But if you did ride off of the road please don't dude it doesn't help the cause. but keep sending us photo's of the finds it's good to see bone in someones hand and not getting chewed up by the mice.

"SAY NO TO BIG ANTLERS"

30,

I don't think that you should be surprised that when you post a picture of illegal activity on a hunting site, you get crap from people. I am sure that you put in the mies on foot as well, but why drive 20 yds off road to pick up a shed? I am sure that you are a good guy, but don't expect not to catch some when you post a pic like this.

Andy

I'm not worried about catching any crap i think it's fun to get these post going. I just wish they were like other hunting sites and the post were positive. Yea we drove of the road or two track trail to hide ATV/Rhino or like when Lunchbox found these we drove over to them. It didn't hurt a thing. Heck i was out on the Grand stair case a few weeks back. The Ranger patrolling the area seen we had gone of the road about 50 yards to put this big stump in for the fire. He told us it was no big deal after a little rain the tracks we made would be gone and the sage we ran over would be just fine. He also said a lot of people are making a big deal about nothing mostly tree hugger's. Which makes me think, are the people talking earlier in this post tree hugger's? Well I know if they are what they same means NOTHING. We respect the hills and what we did with our ATV/Rhino didn't hurt anything.

Andy, I'm sure your a good guy also. Jay walking and speeding are also illegal and I bet you have done both before. I expect post like this because people are jealous and that's all. There is no illegal activity on the post hell for all you know he found a two track trail to ride over to pick the sheds up.

Yeah Bighamr, good job. Nice attitude. The ends justify the means right? You're the reason we have so many new laws and government regulations every year. A small minority of people without any ethics will do everything they can to get the biggest antler pile, biggest bull, or whatever. Go ahead, "ride your wheeler all day" all over the winter range pushing the animals around, and trashing the country. Soon, there will be new laws in every state governing ATV's because some people can't help but abuse an otherwise good tool. Seen the new Northern Utah shed season? I guess the rest of us who do it right are just "a bunch of whiners," while you cause new laws to be written.

30,

It is not jealousy. It is just a deep passion for keeping the country ATV free and doing the right thing. Here are a couple of ATL pics from last week, and the days find.

Look your not getting the point either of you. I am deeply respectful of the wildlife and wouldn't push them around on their winter range with my ATV. I don't even like the thought of a animal having to run from an ATV/Rhino. Anyway my whole deal with this post was that you two was like your breaking the law and your road your ATV/Rhino off road to find all those. By the way nice horn pictures you have there it looks like your HIKED a lot for them. WAY TO GO!!!!!

LAST EDITED ON Mar-21-07 AT 12:46PM (MST)[p]Hey boys, really nice sheds. I have an atv also and I'm not anti-4 wheeler, but I've seen more quad tracks through the sage this year more than ever and its starting to piss me off. Its no wonder why Utah is going to have shed hunting laws. I'm not pointing fingers but its getting rediculouos. I do know that most of you shed hunters are hard walking guys, as I'm I, but there are the lazy no good people out there that will eventually ruin shed hunting in the end, its half way there already. Just thought I'd chime in.

It's out of control. It comes down to pure laziness. I caught two guys last week tearing up the mountain side. When I confronted them the first guy said as 30buck said "I try to respect the land". Even though he was off the trail he said he was trying to tread lightly. This conversation took place while we watched his partner get high centered on a tree as he tore up the hill in the "Destroy as much habitat as you can hill climb championship." I asked them where they was from and they said were from a ur a um a well a Salt Lake. They had Dixie Concrete shirts on so I don't think that was the case. Wish I had my phone with me.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-21-07 AT 02:10PM (MST)[p]ELKOHOLIC did you even read the above posts? Wow this is the most fun I've had at work in a long time thanks guys. I wish you would have had your phone with you to, you need to call them in and teach them a lesson. Way to patrol the hills. GOOD JOB!!!

Ya, I read your posts. You admitted to going off the road, running over sagebrush, and then tell us that the ranger said it was OK. Thats all I need to form an opinion on the subject.

yea and if you could comprehend what you read. You would see that IT DIDN'T HURT #####. Or are you another tree hugger? Cause fool if you are your thoughts means NOTHING. Heck if anything we help the environment by getting the dead fall out so some new growth could occur. I was getting wood for the fire remember it's in the above post. NOT SHED hunting when i did that. Making a point you SEE.

I guess just because you are getting firewood its ok! That is just another lame excuse for your laziness. It seems to me you are just another lazy person that thinks the laws dont apply to him!

This has been a very fun post thanks for all the time and effort you guys put into it. Ta Ta for NOW

Yes, "stupid" everyone sees the pink elephant but you and we're the stupid ones.lol

Yeah Fullcurl74, good job, Nice attitude. The ends justify the means right? YOU are the reason that we have so many new bull chit laws! I have more ethics than you would ever care to know. I can ride my four wheeler all day any time I want. Did I say off the road tearing things up. All on trails that say ATV trails only. Just wanted to see how quick you would start assuming like always. So much negative on this site its annoying. I know there are idiots tearing everything up Everyone that hunts or horn hunts sees that. So before you start pointing fingers and accusing everyone get the whole story first.

Looks like you baited fullcurl to walk right into that one. Good job on keeping the ATVs on the trail.

bighamr great example i said i was done, but had to give you credit man, to much assuming without the full story. Then you try to explain and somehow they pick the negative stuff out anyway great job. Hope to see you riding your atv to your hiking spot and then hiking the hills with yea. Peace man

Please prohibit ATV's from public lands from April 1st-March 31st.

Get a grip. You obviously work for some Gov. agency. Fine! restrict wheelers, snowmobiles, cattle, mountain bikers, granola munching morons, or anyone that enjoys getting away from these stupid computers, and I'm "IN" JEEZE!!!!

Absolutley cool!! Great finds & thanks for the photos. Pay no attention to the comments that some folks feel they need to make.

Holy chit batman. Walking 15 miles while shed hunting? Did you ever look back to see if you missed anything? Or, how about stopping to glass? What about that Bud light can? Did you pack that in to drink or did you pack it out when you found it empty. Thanks for the pixs!

LAST EDITED ON Mar-21-07 AT 09:56PM (MST)[p]I was waiting for somebody to say something about the beer can. That is just to funny. No that was mine i did pack a few beers the one day. We do however pick up a lot of trash that was missed. It's good karma.

ClorideRUS and nmhs

thanks for the comments

LAST EDITED ON Mar-21-07 AT 10:19PM (MST)[p]Nah...its just ATV's I want gone. Alright, and snowmobilers in big game wintering areas too, but that's all. And I wish I did work for the Forest Service or BLM so I could have more influence over this decision.

I love getting away from the computer as much as anyone...I just hate running into ATV abuse nearly every time I choose to hit the hills.

Honestly though, I don't expect for ATV's to ever be eliminated from the woods out West, but if it was my choice it would have happened long ago.

If 100,000 people wanted to take their brand new chain saws up into the hills and cut down a big tree just because it is fun would the Forest Service be obligated to let them all? This is the reason given for not prohibiting ATV's, and it is ridiculous. I have been told on numerous occasions by FS persons that the FS realizes how destructive the wheelers are, but they cannot stand up to them because of how many people want to ride. I say get a spine and if you really do realize how bad it is, just end it. Enough already.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-22-07 AT 09:15AM (MST)[p]1010jake here is the deal you take me hiking to your spot then we will go to mine, but can we PLEASE ride the ATV/Rhino to the spot to start hiking? I don't want to be wore out by the time i get there.

notice the pack in the top left of the RHINO. Rhino's are so great for getting all your HIKING gear from spot to spot.

Hmm, that's weird. I somehow assumed everyone understood we weren't debating the use of ATV's on signed ATV trails. My bad.

30buck,

The deal is that we have a difference in philosophy. Keep your ATVs on the roads, and I am "A" O.K. with you. I have no desire for your request. Good luck.

1010Jake cool i thought for a min i got myself in a pickle and was going to have to take you to my spot. Good luck to you also I'll make sure to let you know when i get my logo for my hat.

30buck,

I hope you take stand with ATVs offroad. Good luck. post some pics.
