Drew an area 36B Rocky Tag and looking for some information from one of you Idaho natives. I spoke to F&G and they pointed me to the Hat Creek area and recommended that I use either Stan Potts or White Cloud outfitters.

Thanks in advance for the information.

This will be my Slam Ram.

How deep are your pockets? Mike Scott of White Cloud will definately get you your ram, but the last price was about $7000 for a 10 day hunt. Good camps, good food, multiple great guides and will almost guarantee a shot at a nice 160-170'ish sheep. His newsletter each year has 2-4 successful sheep hunters from various units. When I had my tag in the White Clouds there were 3 out of 5 tags filled-mine as unguided and his 2 clients. Sure is worth the call.

Blank, Thanks for the information ... Mike Scott is going to phone me tomorrow to discuss his outfit and the unit. I have already spoken to Stan Potts and the fella who purchased his outfit (RJ). Stan said that he had not been in the unit for five years; where as Mike said that he has taken eleven sheep out of unit 36B over the years.

As far a deep pockets ... being a sole provider of a young family of five people and not made of money, the pockets are tight like most of us. However being my Slam Ram and not in a position with my job or location to spend a great amount of time scouting an unknown area, I will be spending the money with a guide service.

Thanks again for the information.

Good luck. I well know the time/job/family/distance limitations to hunting these once-in-lifetime permits. Put in 15 years in 4 states to get my first sheep tag, now just have to buckle down for Dall and Stone, maybe do the Visa thing and pay off. Seems every cent you save gets siphoned off for something else. I think you'll like Mike, and like I said, he is productive and has good references. I spent 16 days above 10,000 feet for mine but his clients usually score in the first few days.

Slam ram huh? No pressure there. LOL. Best of luck to you, one of these days I hope to be in your shoes.

I have been extremely blessed/lucky ... Drew a Utah Desert Tag last year and then an Idaho Rocky Tag this year. There has got to be a higher power working here. If I score this fall it will have only taken me five years to complete my Grand Slam. Kind of unheard of for a working class guy.

Thanks for the words of encouragement.

I hear 'ya. Drew my desert before I left AZ, then got my RM here in CO. Now I guess I need to bite the bullet and spend the $$$ in the north country. To top it off, my wife drew a desert here in CO this year. Now guys are asking me to touch their applications.....LOL.

All,

I went with White Cloud Outfitters and took a fine older class ram after five days of hunting. He has eight annuals with base measurements of 13 7/8" & 13 5/8". His length is 29 1/2" & 33". Mike and Louis both put in the extra effort to make my Grand Slam Hunt Special.

Congratulations on the completion of your slam. I was with a 78 yr old gentleman a few years back when we completed his slam and the emotions he displayed were amazing! What an experience and again, congrats.

BrianID; I will still be putting my name into as many sheep draws as I can afford ... Sheep hunting just contains so many different challenges and elements. It is my passion.

I have a young son (age 7) and will be spending quality time getting him exposed to the sport of hunting and guiding him into a responsible young man.
