I'm about adept at shed huntin' as I am at huntin', which is pretty amateurish. Growing up, my three sons agreed Dad was really great at deer WALKING! So this yr. it seems, I've done a lot of shed antler WALKING. I had yet to find ONE elk antler, and have a pile of dink 2 and 3 pt. whitey buck deer antlers. The only brownie to date was a broke antlered "brow tine" from base to a couple of inches past the tine!! Such was my luck. Shows you how much LUCK sometimes comes into play. This morning, I was headin out, blowin' through the trees, heading up to Mt. Wilson east of Pioche. Well, a small buck ran across in a hurry, I decided to give chase with my video cam. It was pretty thick stuff, never saw the buck again. Hurryin' back to the truck, I came across a small 7-pt. "whitey", which was ok. I decided to follow the wash, then came across a 5-pt. muley (grey and chalky)...next I encountered the "whitey" 6x5 matched set. Followed the wash until it played out onto a sagebrush flat. On the way back to the truck, I found the heavy-based 4pt. "brownie", for my first brown elk antler of the year! Wish they all coulda been "brownies"...but a fun day just the same!!
