Looking for Utah General season help

Hey everyone, I could use some guidance. I've hunted the Cache unit for over 30 years, but with the new proposal for rifle restrictions, it’s looking like time for a backup plan. I'm in search of a new unit that’ll give me good opportunities to glass and let me use my current equipment.

I'm up for hiking in, and I even have access to llamas if needed to make the camp setup more enjoyable. Open to all suggestions, and I'd really appreciate honest advice sent via DM. Thanks so much for your time!

I don't mean to change the subject of the thread, but what's the new proposal on restrictions? And are they only proposed for that area or a few units?

There are quite a few Utah units where you can glass lots of country. Beaver, Dutton, Monroe, Pahvant, and many others come to mind. As far as whether there are some good bucks to glass up......well, I don't know.

I'm guessing you're a lifetime license holder?

Well that is very helpful
Come on brother, you gotta expect a little ribbing 😁😁

Given the draw odds of most hunts, these temporary restrictions will probably only effect most people's hunts one time. Maybe you too?

I recently hunted a unit I had never stepped foot in until this year. I basically considered the size of the unit, estimated deer numbers, and number of tags for the hunts. You'll have different criteria, as you mentioned, but hiking in will require finding areas without roads. Founder gave some sound units. But mature deer are few and far between...

Open sights on rifles, they already had an impact on the muzzleloaders and didn't even give that time to work. So nope I will move on. I didn't spend all the money on my rifle to go back to a 30-30.

I like the idea of no scopes, but understand where you’re coming from. What other units are they doing that with?

Are you an LL holder?

Where will they end, trail cams, muzzleloaders now open sights on rifles..... We will continue to have restrictions if we don't start saying enough of this.

I'm on the opposite side as yourself. I'm all for restrictions that make success more difficult. But I understand where you're coming from, wondering where it'll end. I think there are a lot more sportsmen in your camp than in mine, so you probably don't have much to worry about, especially if it's still just a proposal.

Cache, Ogden, and Kamas are all in terrible shape. Box Elder seems slightly better. I'm all for switching things up and allowing more challenging opportunities for hunters while the herds get established again. I'd rather hunt a bad unit every year than a decent unit every three years.
