Longbow Obsession

I have recently started to look into Longbows. I shot a Pronghorn Reflex/Deflex and I was very impressed.

I'm going to buy a longbow, I just don't know which one.

I have been shooting compounds for the last ten yeatrs and, in short, they are so precise that I'm looking into the longbows now. They are incredibly light, stylish, and they present a new challenge.

For you longbowers, what would you recommend?

I think it is more a matter of preference than brand. I like the way the one I built shoots better than any other I've tried. If you can shoot before buying, do! Find one that feels right to you that you like when you shoot it. If you liked the way the Pronghorn shot, that may be a good choice for you.

I think what mmwb said ... I also think a bow will find you ,if you know what I mean. I wouldn't shoot anything else. I love the challenge and the simplicity. Once you go that way you'll probably never go back( anyone can shoot wheels) good luck in your choice... And good luck hunting this year.

I am a regular on the deer and elk forums, but just came over here tonight looking for a thread like this!

I have fallen in love with "trad bows" in the last couple years. I spent several days with an old "master" bow builder almost 2 years ago now, and we built me an awesome R/D Take down long bow. This year I finally put the compound down for good, actually havent shot anything but my longbow since elk season ended last year.

I am going after Mt. Goat, deer and elk with my Longbow this year!

Jakstr....my bowyer friend passed away this winter and I am going to start building "his" bows. If you have any interest in being one of the first customers...keep in touch.

Hey ,ernie. sorry to hear about you buddy. At least he passed it down. I've a buddy that builds self bows but stays pretty traditional... He helped me build a red oak stick and killed my first bow buck with it ... the bow I have now seems to be working for me , (bill price out of califorina) but someday I would like a take down. Goat uhh, sounds awesome (what state) Someday I would like to hunt goat with a longbow... doesn't get much more challenging then that. let us know how you do. where are located , if you don't mind me asking... anyways good luck this year jakstr
