licensing question for Deer

Can anyone tell me if I have 9 points saved for deer but want to hunt a unit that takes no points to draw. Do I lose my points by taking this unit or is there a way to not use my points and still go hunting in that unit.

Any help would be appreciated.

If the unit or Region you want to hunt still has tags left after the first choice applicants are drawn, the way to do it is to put in for the toughest unit to draw that takes max points for your first choice and then put the other as your second choice to draw it and not lose your points. The other way would be to not put in for anything on the initial draw and hope that there are tags left where you want to hunt. Then you could put in for it in the second draw that doesn't use points that they just started doing last year. However, doing either is taking a chance you won't get drawn, but at least you wouldn't lose your 9 PPs. If you want to PM me with where you want to hunt I can give you a much better idea of exactly what your chances would be, but they would be based on last years draw and that could change based on the new fees for this year and whether the applicant numbers change much from last year.

Apply as a second or third choice and no PP lost. Maybe a leftover tag but that's a long shot.
If you apply for it as a 1st choice it will take your PP if you draw.
Things may be different this year with the price increase, many are applying to get out of the PP game. Odds may be a little steeper on all tags.
