Iam going to purchase a leupold 12x40x60 spotting scope, is there any major differece between the HD model and the standard model, it is really hard to tell in the store.

Having owned both, I think very little. I've a new Leupold HD (12x40x60) in the hard case with the tripod, camera adapters and the soft case. It is less than 1 year old.
