I get so antsy this time of year, all the equiptment talk is fine in the winter, but with the season almost upon us lets talk scouting. Who has been and what are you seeing? Any pictures? I should have some in about a week. Planning a scouting run to a new to me area in Idaho. What do the rest of you Elk slayers look for in an area? Lets see some pics from years past even. I'm jonesing for the Elk Hills.

I bear hunt pretty much all summer (hounds) so I am out there alot anyways, seen 2 pretty nice bulls in seperate drainages today, the one looked like it was going to be around a 300 class when done.......usually i just throw the binos up and glass a bit while dogs are out chasing yogi round and round.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-10-06 AT 09:14PM (MST)[p]I have been out to one new area a couple weeks ago. I didn't see anything that would make me go back to that spot.

When I scout this early I'm not really looking for bulls right now. It's fun to see them but they typicaly are'nt in the same area now as in the rut. I look for last years "rutting" signs. Rub trees, lots of "wafer poop" "barkings" good feed areas with water, and bedding areas close by. If I can find an old wallow even better. Old trails don't grow in, you should still be able to see them.
