left helical or right helical???

Hi guys,

I want to start building my own arrows. I shoot right handed so I am not sure if I need to install my fletching with a left helical or right helical? You imput would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Doesn't matter if you're shooting vanes.....as long as they're all the same (right or left).

The most popular helical jig sold is right helical.

I'm in the same situation as you....and I recently read, like bohntr said, it doesn't matter. But, I also read that a left helical will tend to loosen your points in the target...as it is spinning the arrow left. Makes sense...so I think I'm going to get a right helical jig. What jig are you using? See my "Fletching jig?" post below...I'm looking to get one shortly.

Thanks guys for the reply. Very helpful. bowhunter223 I will be purchasing a Bohning single jig. I understand it is slower than a multiple jig for obvious reasons but more precise and reliable. I will go right handed too for the reason you stated. Thanks again.

Quick Spins and Blazers dont need to be fletched Helical!!! So it depends on what brand of vanes you are using!!!NAP(Quick Spins)recommend strait or slightly offset.Blazers recommend 2-3 degree offset!!! Good Luck

left or right? It depends on which side of the equator you're on. North of the equator=right, South of the equator=left.

BOHNTR, What jig were you referring to? I am also looking into this.

Also, do you guys know if the Cabelas Arrow Saw Package kit is worth owning? 8,000 rpm with scale for $150.00?

Lastly, what is the best glue for Blazers to Easton Epic or Axis shafts?

I use a Bitzenburger jig with a right helical clamp. That saw should work well for everything you'll need it for (carbon & aluminum). I use Bohning Platinum glue with blazer vanes. haven't had any problems, just make sure you prep your shafts (clean, etc.).
