I actually stained the horns using Special walnut. After I stain them, I sand them with light sand paper to lighten up the high ridges. I do that to any of the good whites I find. The other thing I do before I stain them, is coat the whole antler in clear Polyeurothane. The antler soaks in all of the polyeurathane and you don't get the dark effect that happens if you just put stain directly on the antler. If you don't use the polyeurathane, or some kind of wood conditioner, the stain is way to dark, and you can't lighten up the ridges with sanding.
