Ive built quite a few things now, things become better built each time i make something. But the one thing I cannot stand is being able to see the wood filler or what ever i have used to fill screw holes. I tried several things, stainable fillers etc...Even tried blending it with colored pencils and staining over that.A few things have turned out pretty well compaired to others, and maybe im asking too much to not be able to see the filler completely? But i hate it ! i want it to be perfect!HAHA! I just do it for a hobby so im not trying to take anyone's buisiness.I know people are partial to the tricks they have accquired.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.THANKS!

Hey its nice to know someone shares the same feelings I do about that. I cant stand seeing where I made holes on lamps and tables. I also tried lots of fillers and I finally found one that works the best so far. I use liquid nails to fill the holes. You can sand it down and if you use white antlers it blends in almost perfect with them. And when you stain you cant see it unless you really look hard. Hope that helps.

I make my wife paint over them!! She's more artsy and I'm more crafty. Wiring is harder than screws. Is your problem just color or is the filler itself obvious?? In either case for screws do not countersink the head. Screw it in and use a cutter wheel on a dremel to notch the screw shaft at the surface of the antler then snap off the head of the screw flush with the antler leaving a 1/8" hole to fill and camo rather than a 3/8". Beware you cannot disassemble the piece if you need to change something and it's not as strong as having the head of the screw to hold it together. I usually don't do this for these reasons but if it really bugs you try this it should help.

Thanks for the help! i'll give it a shot.To your question,The filler itself isnt what bugs me because i can usually sand it pretty well to blend. It is just the color that bugs me because i have been countersinking the heads so if my color is off i can really tell. Most people probably wouldnt mind it but since i built it i would like it to look better. This might be stupid but another idea that i had was to try to make little pluggs like those little wooden dowells they make.I wanted to figure out how or what to use, like a hole saw or such to make those pluggs out of horn, trim them down and pess them into the holes, you would still see them but at least they would be horn and it would look a little more authentic than my filler eye sore.let me know what you think!
