Lake Sonoma Archery Deer

Anyone have any experience with this pre rut/rut archery hunt. Steep terrain, dry vegatation, potential nocturnal bucks, yet, still, I may be interested. I do have a boat to access the Lake. Was wondering if this is pure spot and stalk or can you sit springs/stands? There are only 9 days of hunting allowed might be tough to try and pattern the deer. Is there enough open country to glass these deer? Is it worth the points in your opinion? I know the hunt success is very low, but so are most blacktail hunts with the bow rig. Thanks,

I have been on this hunt with freinds A few times. In my opinion it is not as good because of the increase of tags. There is not as much area to hunt as one would think.Sitting on springs is A waste of time, because the hole hunt zone is surrounded by water,so spot and stalk is the way to go.The country is very open and glassing is A must.As for points,in my opinion,It is not worth 3or 4 points to burn,be cause I live in black tail county and killed a few.Saying all that,I am on that lake 25 times A year bass fishing and pig hunting and I have seen some real nice bucks. there are lots of deer and weather will play A big part for the rut to kick in.Hope this helps, good luck

Yes, thats what i am hearing, too many hunters in too confined of a space. I'll bring the glass and I hope to have one or too of those real nice bucks patterned going in, but, when the rut starts thats all out the window.
