Anyone out there hunting with the bow in Kaibab this year? I did some scouting two weeks ago. Man did they get hit with water this year.

I'm going to hunt it again. I really enjoyed it last year. It looks like this will more than likely be the last year for an over the counter Kaibab deer tag. We better soak it up. It will be a tough draw for a non resident in the future. 10% rule.

It's sad to see that even the permits you can count on year after year are going to a draw system. I can understand muledeer management, but I'm not sure if this is the best approach.

I'll send you picks of the one I either bag or the one that gets away. Either way it should be fun....Kaibab is all I can think of right now.....

I'll be up there this year. Hope there's some deer left after all the rifle hunters last year..lol...Good Luck!!

Kaibab has always been a week (or so) later than the rest of the state to open, but this year it opens after the rest of the state closes. I think there will be mobs up there this year (even more than in the past) because it will be the only game in town. Moreover I think this is part of the plan, that G&F is trying to get as many people up there as possible to use as a justification to take away the OTC tags, at least for that area.

I didn't even look at the other dates. That's too bad if the G & F are playing that game.

With all the rain they've had up there this summer, how is the growth on the warm fire burn area? I'm not going but have talked to a few guys who drew and were looking for some advice since we hunted 12AE late last year. With a lot of rain, I'd love to know how the burned area looks this summer.

CAelknuts, the grass is all over the place. High in some parts. The deer are spread out all over with all the water and the fresh grub.

The warm fire burn has a lot of low lying green vegetation. It almost looks like green weeds, bushes with grass. Most of the new growth is around 6 foot high. Along the highway the trees are cut down about 40 yards on each side of the highway so the trees don't blow down on the road. The burn does look quite a bit better now than it did two weeks after it happened. There are deer using the burn area now. Most of the tanks were empty in early June, now they are all tipped full with water.
