Finally got around to staining a large lion kill buck ive had for a few years and a nice matching set of sheds that i mounted on a skull plate.
The rack is 30+ buck i wish i would of found alive during deer season.I was lucky enouch to find him before the rodents did so that was fortunate enough. The others are a matching set i found a while back when i use to hunt for mulies in North eastern Cali.Same thing wish i would of found this bruiser during bow season.

super job, jr.. tell us, what method did you use for staining? thanks for the pics, too.

What did you use to build the base on your sheds? I have some moose sheds I would like to do that to.

The base for the sheds actually can be bought through the taxidermy supplies and the stain i used was a mixture of antler stain i aquired from a taxidermist that does my mounts and some wood stain(oak, mohogany, golden oak and the like).Ive experimented on other sheds to try and get the best mix of color and then go lightly until i get the desired color. Now ive gotta try and stain my elk set i found this year.

Nice staining im impressed . The sheds mount looks perfect the configuration . Thanks for sharing .

Those are so nice bucks, to bad you don't find the bucks on Heart Mountain, I haven't seen a buck like that for a long time here in Wy, but the 3X3, my bro shot this year is 24 wide and like 19 or 20 tall. Did u have better luck than your brother did this hunting season?

Those look great! Can't event tell they have been stained. Awesome bucks... The only bad thing about finding great dead bucks is that they won't be around to drop any more sheds!!! I am sure their genes got pasted on so there is hope!!! Congrats!

Not on heart but up the southfork I tagged this whitetail.Pretty good for my 1st WT.Thats why we hunt in the Cody area because of the possiblity of a good mulie and a chance at a whitey for a consolation prize. Its just to much fun in that country,Im envious of you guys and the country you have to spend your free time in.
Heres the pic, I already had it posted on the muledeer forum earlier this winter,

That is a good looking whitetail! I can't say I have ever shot a whitetail, always hunted on Heart!, but I sure do love to find the sheds. Good looking mulies as well, it seems they are getting harder to find each year on Heart!

Ya Tanner I hear ya on the Heart quality and quanity,You even hunted before the walk-in was open in there and I bet it was evan better then,The elk have seem to have an effect on the deer on that place. There is still a large expance of country to cover in F so we do have some better spots to snoop around in its just hard not to at least spend one day on heart just in case.I dont know if the elk hang in that area during the late winter but with all the animals there you might start lookin for the elk sheds to increase in that area as well.Just a thought!!!

Heart is weird in the winter! Not very many deer stick around. There are usually only a few large bucks that hang in the area, finding those sheds is difficult but worth while. The elk stay in the area, but they are almost all cows and spikes with only a very small number of rags. In all my years of scouting and hunting Heart, I have never found a rag elk shed. I think the bulls here stick to the steep nasty terrian. I'm glad they don't shed there though. If they did so many people would be driving all over and chasing them. Did you hear about when the hunters chased the elk off the mountain and through the farmland. What a shame! The hunters were chasing the elk with pickups and four-wheelers. There was several elk that died the next day unclaimed, I hope the bulls stick to the high country, it seems like the people that have to work to find sheds, respect the animals a little more.
