My hiking buddy and I dove off into a deep south facing canyon to see if the competition had missed anything and to look at the rocks. I was half hopeing to not find to big a load because hauling rocks and bone up hill in the heat is NOT my favorite way to spend the day. It froze the night before, yes I said froze, Friday July 11th 2008, so the bugs were Gone---- YES!!! I Hate mosquitoes!
After an hour of hiking and almost getting run over by a large Bobcat that was running from my wife but did not see me till he was 15' away, my hiking buddy whistled me in to look at the "set" she had just found.

The set turned out to be two lefties both over 10# each

After another hour she finds a big 5pt that weighs over 12# the 30" wale tail is nice!!! The varmits had their way with the button but it will make a nice flower bed bone.

Looks like some steep country. Whats the brown animal just behind your wifes head on the third picture?

Congrats on the finds! I went out the other day to see if any were missed and found a 5 point that was laying right out in the open hillside--couldn't believe it was missed. So what kind of Rocks were you looking for?

Dang nice finds!!

Who says you have to be the first on the mountian pushing animals around to find big sheds!

Longun I am a flintknapper. Any rock with conchoidal fracture will do. There are some red Jaspers in the area that are sweet to work, and some wonderfull agates but they are way hard.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-25-08 AT 09:35PM (MST)[p]I think you can only do that in Wyo. A little tougher in Utah.
What I mean by that is finding big bone this late in the year.
Nice Job!

Wyo--lets see some of your flintknappping stuff....I'm fanatical about that. I'd rather look for arrowheads than antlers any day. Here's a pic of something I made a couple years back just playing around in the winter. The material is porcellanite.

I had to start making them to keep up with my hiking buddy, she finds "real" ones quite often.

I just make points when I can't be in the hills findin rocks and bones.
