Can anybody tell me about the Jackson Hole horn hunt on the refuge? Is it a joke, or is it something worth doing once? I imagine there is a ton of people that go to it. When is it opened this year, and where can you go? Thanks

It's a joke worth doing once... and only once.

I believe it opens on the 1st of May.. You can go into a specific area which can be found by following the 1,467,432 people in line ahead of you. You might pick up a couple if you're lucky, but I think it would be much better to wing it somewhere in the surrounding national forest and not have all the competition..

It opens May 1st and it is a pretty fun experience to do. I've been going for about 4 years now and every time me and my friends go it gets even better. The first year we were 51st in line and i found 25 antlers. The smallest one I found was a 4 point. Last year I found a huge winter kill that scored 365 5/8 and a hand full of antlers. You don't have one specific area you have to go on. You just have to stay off the refuge. All the national Forest is open to the public. Our entertainment last year was watching the f&g officials chase a drunk on a 4 wheeler around on the refuge and forest the day before the forest or the refuge opened and watching a couple drunk cowboys fall off their horses and break their leg. It is a fun time. If you haven't tried it you should try it once. It opens on May 1st this year. It is on a Monday.

Oh come on Wideone! there is nothing like sitting in line for 2 days crap'n on the refuge in a ditch, watching the drunk cowboys fall off their horses, sleeping in the back of the truck and then running up a hill racing a horse. NOW THATS FUN!!! But honestly if you do go you will have fun. find em or NOT. It's a party!!!
