IronHorse and crummy weather

LAST EDITED ON May-22-08 AT 09:48PM (MST)[p]The Wife and I are heading down to Durango Tomorrow. Going to ride our bikes in the Ironhorse Classic to Silverton. 53 miles, two mountain passes, and 6800 feet of climbing. Only problem is the weather forecast. Cold, wet, snow. Hope it clears up by Saturday.

Iron Horse Bicycle Classic is canceled
6:45 a.m.

For the first time in its 37-year history, the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic was canceled due to heavy snow in the San Juan Mountains north of Durango.

Race director Gaige Sippy said the Colorado State Patrol made the decision to cancel the race at 6 a.m. Sippy said five inches of snow fell at Durango Mountain Resort overnight, and Silverton received a foot of snow.

We think they made the right decision.

Our Campsite at Junction Creek about 600 feet above Durango at 8AM.
