Hello all. Settled down in New Mexico after I retired from the Marine Corps. I'm looking forward to my first NM hunt, and I drew a mule deer tag for Unit 49. Could anyone please offer some advice and knowledge on the unit, and NM hunting in general? I would really appreciate any helpful tips. Thanks.

Go to an area that looks like it would hold deer. Climb to an area where you have a vantage point. Pull out your glass, have sun at your back, glass, glass, glass, and more glass. No deer, find a new area and repeat the above process until you find deer. I usually don't leave deer to find deer, but others may disagree. Gonna be cold so layer up, and make sure you are able to shoot up to 500 yards accurately is my rule of thumb.

Outstanding. Thank you.
