I am really intrested in bowhunting elk and deer I dont' have a bow but I am looking to buy one but what kind should I get and if I only hunt with a bow untel im 18(unless I fall in love with bowhunting) I don't want one that will cost an arm and a leg. should I buy a brand new one or get a used one and what is the average cost for a good bow with everything on it.

Thats a tough one. If you like the idea of a traditional bow, shoot some of those. If you want the high tech compounds do that. I have only owned one brand new bow, and probably never will again. I am not sure of your size, but you want to pick a bow that fits you. Draw length and draw weight. You don't need a lot of draw weight to kill an animal. The minimum in Colorado is 35#. The short of it is that you should find a shop near you and stop in and ask the same question...they'll hopefully treat you right.

As far as a compound go to a pro shop that sells martin bows and shoot a Martin Jaguar Magnum ... you cant beet this bow for the money but if you want to spend much more try a Bow Tech or Mathews... all are great Bows.

I would suggest going to the local archery shop and test driving some of the bows they have available. A really good starter bow that has received decent reviews is the Grizzly from Reflex. I think Cabela's has a package deal with sights, quiver, rest, and of course the bow for around $300. The world famous bowhunter Chuck Adams uses Reflex bows exclusively. One word of advise, once you get into this sport you'll love it!

I only warn you that archery is a very adictive sport..
if you buy a cheap package as most do you will fork out the money for good eq soon after.
so my thought's to you are as follows buy top of the line gear in the 1st place... shoot some bowtechs before you buy a bow, martins are great low priced bows, but i would recommend against buying a cheap package deal..if you buy a martin you will save plenty to buy a good rest and sight.
my choice for a sight is the cobra sidewinder.
a cheap good rest is the nap 1000
if you go with a drop away go with the trophy taker..
arrows are worth there weight in gold but buy a cheap 1/2 doz of gold tips to start for you will break and loose them.
broadheads, go with a fixed head such as the nap crossfire or interlocks or whackums.
release a standard cobra will work great.
stabilizer and limb savers are a must, good luck.
