I suppose when it comes down to it, there has to be a first day, of the first week, of the first year, when you quit anything, but 22 years on the cigs, and i picked this week to try again.......WTF was i thinking?

so far i'm only really wanting one, but i know it only get worse, i've quit before. but I'd really like to be able to stay off them, maybe pick up a new bad habit to replace it?

Within the shadows, go quietly.

"I'm gonna die"

Brillant statement dude ... like you got the corner on the market ....

I'm doing Chantrix and it's helping. I didn't kick the cat this morning or any thing.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-21-08 AT 06:49PM (MST)[p]Yes, everytime you feel like a smoke...drive down, pick up Rus, and take him to the In & Out burger for a number 2 animal style....you'll either quit smoking or you and Rus will be able to star in a Vegas Side show as the worlds largest men. Reminds me of a line out of a movie....you know what smoking does...it stunts your growth, blackens your lungs, and yellows you teeth. Do you want to be a yellow toothed midget with black lungs?

Rus and tag working together?? oh wow thats scary!!
lol guys congrats and get it done this time for good tag!!

Tag, i to can understand your wanting to quit. I never did smoke but picked up dipping Copenhagen snuff about 35 years ago and there ain't no quitting that i've found. Tobacco, one of the hardest there is to quit. Alcohol, i quit one day 11 years ago last week, just said to myself that i 'm not gonna drink for a year... It was easy compared to what i went through trying to quit chewing.

Good luck pal! i really do wish you strenght, knowing that you're gonna need it.

Joey

Tag,

Hang in there. It won't be easy but the reward is worth it. I gave up the snuff after 30 years about 5 years ago. It can be done. You need to get your co-workers and family to understand what you are going through. It never hurts to enlist the Lord's help too!

LAST EDITED ON Aug-22-08 AT 07:25AM (MST)[p]Hang tough man,
I quit Copenhagen about 10 year ago. One can a day at $3 plus a can gets expensive. Its hard but think of all the extra money you will have to spend on hunting!

Can you get me some a that 3 dollar a can snuff?

Got ya in my prayers Tag, hard to do but it will be much worth it in the end!!

I saw an ad for "Quit Smoking Gum"......first thing I thought was, who the Hell smokes gum anyway?

So I bought some and it took all day to light the stuff.....then it melted and burned my shirt, so I just said, screw this, and went back to cigarettes.

Good luck, you can do it!

Hang in there! Its worth it!I stoped in 86,hardest thing I ever did!Now I can hunt much better and not gasp for breath every 20 foot climb in elevation. It gets better every day!Get Tuff! You Can Do It!.........Jim

I can sympathize with you Tag...I've been trying to quit the snuff...never thought it would be this hard...

White grapefruit juice! Everytime you feel a need to smoke, take a swig of some of that crap. And whenever you get done eating anything, rinse your mouth out with listerene, or brush your teeth.

May sound stupid, but these things coupled with your desire to quit should help you.

Wow....what a response, ya'll are freaking awesome. I've said to myself, that its not so much that i've quit smoking, but i'm NEVER buying another pack of smokes! Its hard to smoke if you dont buy them!

But i also want to say RUS was right i dont have the corner on the market with this! Good for ya'll that have quit! and keep strong for those of you trying to quit.

I quit copenhagen after 12 years about 3 years ago. I smoked for a few year in addition. Its tough to do but you just have to get mad at it. Just hang it there! The longer you go without the easier it gets.

OK Tag - you are gonna make it! The key is replacement. It is a habit that you need to replace with something positive. Whenever you get the urge to smoke do something positive that is good for you. Like pushups or MM.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-23-08 AT 02:47PM (MST)[p]I've got a few things that are helping me get through this, but i'm thinking of taking up bird watching in my back yard.

I'm possitive that would get my mind off the urge to smoke. maybe get me a pair of them bino's/camera combo's!!!!

Right now its just a pure fight between my body and its so called need for the junk, and my stubborness to not buy any. I'm winning so far!

"sorry, bud, had to!"

An uncle of mine quit a number of years ago, and the the way he did it was to pay himself to do it. Every day or week or whatever he put away as much money as he would have spent on smokes. He really likes to hunt and fish like most of us on here do - but they are expensive habits too. So, he took the money he saved up from not smoking and started using it on rifles, fishing rods, optics, and so on - which gave him more of an incentive to quit. Just a suggestion that worked for someone - hang in there.

I was gonna combine the two into one thing eel, but since you're telling me to avoid both........i'm gonna have to come up with something new!

Tag,
I just quit 2 months ago on the 22nd of July after smoking near 2 packs a day for the last 27 years. I tried everything over the years and nothing helped. I did go and get Chantix and it was a great help for me. I only took the Chantix for 30 days. This is by far the hardest thing I have ever done but I am already seeing and feeling a difference. I do feel better and I am doing more. I am climbing the mountains easier already. Oh and not to mention how much more cash I have on me now. Keep at it, you wont regret it. It's still tough for me at times but now that I am past the actual addiction of nicotine I can fight the habits I had with it. Anyone who has quit knows how hard it is to do. Stay strong and good luck!

PS, it seems to help to take really deep breaths and hold it and slowly let it out from time to time.

Tag, I've got news for you. I'm gonna die, too! Hopefully, it won't be anytime soon.

Seriously, good luck with beating your addiction this time. Lean on your buddies, and they'll help you through. Or, you can try Chantix "better living through drugs". Good luck.

Take practice Tag.. I quit for 10 years once but it took several attempts to get there. Thought I was done with smokes for life but in 2000 I made some drastic live changes. I took a early retirement from my job of 24 years at IBM, Divorced my wife of 25 years (10 years to late), and relocated to southern CA. Oh and I started smoking again and people say "Why after quitting for so long?" It all depends on what is going on in your life and I have to be honest I don't regret starting to smoke again but I will stop again when I am ready and only when IU am ready. Sometimes you gotta do what works for you and you only.

Jim

Model 70....you're right on with your "only when you're ready". I have quit before (not 10 years) but its all the same. When i am ready it'll work, until then i dont want no one calling me a quitter!

Bess, messing with the help aint nothing new, its new to you, but i've been doing it for 10+ years now, and I'm not sure why i even opened that topic up in the chat room. Although, once in awhile when i meet some one new, and i find out they aren't into the smoking thing, i wanna quit. but i'd catigorize that as stop smoking for a few days, until i'm done "introducing" myself to her.
