It seems Vladimir Putin caught a huge Pike, but some people are calling BS. I wonder if there is a Russian version of MonsterMuley's?

Video footage released by the Kremlin last week showed Putin dressed in camouflage fatigues and sunglasses, fishing, driving a motorboat and petting reindeer in a remote region of Siberia with his prime minister and defense minister.

But the images of the 60-year-old president hauling in a pike which the Kremlin said weighed 21 kg (46 pounds) proved too much for some Russians to swallow.

Within hours, online satirists were questioning whether the incident was staged and whether the pike was really as big as the Kremlin said.

"Wonder who planted that fish for Putin to catch," said a caption placed under two online pictures, one of Putin holding the fish and the other showing Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev emerging from a river in a wetsuit with a satisfied look.

Experienced anglers posted photographs of large pike they had caught, questioning the size and weight of the ex-KGB officer's catch.

No doubt outfitters are going to take celebrities to their secluded trophy spots, but no way that fish is 46 pounds. Maybe a translator error? Maybe a 20# pike.

Does not weigh 46 pounds. I am sure Putin can catch fish. If I worked for a Russian newspaper I would probably say its as big as Putin wants it to be. Putin has a famous reputation for making reporters suffer in their last minutes of life.

***Looking at a bunch of those other pictures and now looking back at that one, it is a musky and so are some of the others. A pike doesn't have a tail with the redish color of those bigger fish.

No doubt that is a northern pike, NOT a musky guaranteed. Grew up in MN fishing both of them.
Unless he is over 8ft tall, that is NOT a 46 pound pike. I would put it in the low 40's long, with the girth it is showing I'd guess to be 20-22 pounds. It is a great pike but is less than half of what they are claiming at 46 pounds.
