I am looking for any information on the Leadore controlled hunt for rifle bull elk. My family drew 3 permits. We normaly hunt in units 21a and 28 but we dont know alot about unit 29. Can anyone tell me how the elk herd is looking in there this year? Are there still quality bulls in there and have the wolves impacted this unit yet?
We are going to be there labor day weekend to ride quads and do some scouting. Can anyone recomend some starting points? What drainages should we unload in to start scouting?
Any info that someone is willing to share with us will be deeply appreciated.

Thankyou
Keith

There are quality bulls in that unit all it takes is alitle work. There are a few wolves around but not many so that should't be much of a problem. The whole unit has great potential for good bulls. The if you get awayfrom roads and trails it's usually better hunting. Also remember this is a unit that does have additional atv restrictions on hunting in this unit. Also make sure you get a new map from the forest service as there is a new travel plan in effect. Also be respectful over labor day with atv riding as there will be bowhunters out. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply DIY.
Im excited to hear that there are still some quality bulls in that unit and that the wolves havn't over run the unit yet. I do plan on getting away from the road when my season opens. I wont be on the trails on labor day weekend for just the reason that you mentioned. I dont want to interfere with any archery hunters.
I plan on starting our hunt by hunting behind some of the closed gates in upper Hayden Creek. Do you know anything about that area or any other areas?
Thanks again for your info.
Keith
