I posted this in the elk forum too, hoping somebody can help me out.

Hello guys. Wondering if anybody has had success up in 59/59A for bulls. My Dad has a tag and we have hunted all over the unit the past 2 weeks and have not seen a branch antlered bull!
We hunted Thursday and Friday this week and found 5 different herds with between 40-60 elk and none of the herds have mature bulls in them. There are plenty of spikes, one group of 60 had 14 spikes!

If any of you have experience in this unit elk hunting late in the season, would you mind sharing with me where in the heck the big bulls go? Are they still up high in the deep snow? Are they in the timber? They sure as heck aren't where we have been looking.

The area is getting pounded with a huge storm right now and I'm hoping the snow will drive all of the elk down a bit lower. We are going back the last 3 days of this month and hopefully we can find some bulls.

I wish I could help, but I've never been there. Just try some different areas since what you have been doing isn't working. Maybe the weather will help. Patience and good old determination usually payoff in the end.

What areas have you been in? We have a few spots they usually come into when it snows like this weekend ... pm me if you would like.

Has anyone seen my kittie?

From what you described to me, is alot of cows and spikes. Move areas.....big bulls Bach up this time of year and stay away from the cows. Spikes are "mamma boys" still, and tend to stay with cows. Find a totaly new area, as you have found the wrong herd. Do alot of glassing, if possible. Bulls will be in good feed areas trying to fatten up for up coming winter. Good luck and post pics if you get on knocked down!

There are very few "mature" bulls if any left in these units, a raghorn is considered a mature bull!

To much hunting pressure, doesn't allow bulls to get "mature".
