Well we did another 2 nights in the ice camp. We are slowly getting it dialed in and soon will have the system perfected.

First night wind and snow made me nervous, but the next 2 days were awesome and the nights were great.

The lake has been super slow all year, but we ended up with a little mixed bag of fish…

Sauger, Walleye, Ling, Rainbows…

That lake is fickle for sure. I've been pretty lucky in general for perch and crappie the times I've fished it. Did only fair on walleye and Sauger.

What is a ling? Dumb question but can you put a heater buddy in that tent with you? Never lived in that kind of weather but if ice is 26 inches thick, don't think a heater buddy would melt much?

Ling, Burbot, Eel Pout, are a species of fresh water Cod they have a white meat and taste decent. They are referred to as the poor man’s lobster as a common cooking method is to chop the meat in cubes boil it quickly until it floats, remove dry and then dip in butter. It is decent, you can also take the belly meat cut it into strips and bread and fry. It is a lot like calamari.

We use a big buddy heater on a larger propane tank. We set up our tent with the foam work out pads/locking floor pads that are at least a 1/2 thick. That prevent most of the melting and water. We then set up cots etc. it is just like setting up a wall tent etc.

The only down fall is moisture, at night it does get bad and freezes but as soon as the sun hits next morning it dries out pretty fast.

This year we had epic cold and epic ice, season was like a month longer than normal.

If I get motivated next year I am going with a diesel heater to avoid the moisture.

Oh and alway have a CO detector. I insist on 2 incase one is faulty..
