LAST EDITED ON Jan-23-09 AT 06:41PM (MST)[p]I remember when:

Gas was $.33 a gallon. Yep, 3 gallons for $1.00. And $1.00 was all I had!

The limit was 3 steelhead per day and we would catch limits every time out.

The wife and I would sell our empty coke bottles to get the money to go to the movies.

Our daughter was born and the total bill was $1200, and we made payments for a year.

Going hunting out of state was for dreaming only.

Having a box of shotgun shells and a day off was grounds for pure joy.

Not being able to sleep the night before the opening day of duck season was normal for me.

When I finally made the last house payment and they mailed me the Deed.

Eel

We've come a long way Baby!

Edit: I remember when D13er was a member in good standing.:)

LAST EDITED ON Jan-23-09 AT 06:42PM (MST)[p]I remember when gas was .24 a gallon and they would have gas wars that would bring it down to .19. I don't remember the the last half of the 60's or the first part of the 70's though.

I remember tag's mom saying something like "come on cowboy".

Beer was .50 a bottle.

Well ... this all happened after the the bar closed in a 1969 Chevy Camero.

i remember when black guys worked for us, now we work for them................
well i read it in a book anyhow...........

I remember when I bought a 12 gauge Remington 870 Pump and a CASE of assorted LEAD shot sizes for the total of $158.00. And I paid cash with no paperwork and walked right out of the store gun in hand and case of shells in the shopping cart. I was a freshman in High School 1970. I bought the gun and shells in K. Falls, Or at the Ranchers Wholesale store.

Now that you mention shotguns i remember going to high school (NW Floridia) with a shot gun in the car. Many friends and hunting buddies actually left them on the gun rack in the back windows of their trucks, and after school we'd go hunting. boxes of 000 buck shot strewn around on the floor boards....

Jeez, I could buy them for 25 cents a pack and later in VN I bought a carton for $1.20

I remember when the gas wars were going on in mid '58 and I could get gas for 16.9 cents a gallon.

First time I went to a movie it was free as I was under 6 Y.O.
then it cost me 50 cents

In '60 could get a hamburger, fries & coke for 50 cents.

I remember in high school during the gas wars paying .19 cents per gallon for gas, Fisher beer was 3 quarts for a $1.00, Cigs were 4 packs for a $1.00, and a 3 finger lid was $10.00..
Going to concerts in SF at the Fillmore or Avalon Ballroom for $6.00 with at least 3 bands...

Oh those were the good old days.

"Only Two Things are Infinite" -
The universe and human stupidity and I'm not so certain about the universe.

i remember when you could go out to a restaurant or grocery store and you didn't have to listen to wetbacks spewing there
foreign gibberish continuously..

i remember when;

it cost 50 cents to get in the movies.

Big hunk candy bar was a nickle, Rocky Road a dime.

Walking across our Calif Bay Area town with my uncased shotgun on my shoulder to hunt pheasents out by the hiway runoff ditch...and there were still birds there to hunt.

going to the movies with a girl having plenty of money and her hand in my pocket, $10., gas, snacks, and all!

a 30-30 was considered a good gun for deer.

Redfield Widefield was the chit in scopes, most had 4x and no need for more than 6X

I could do a month long 2 state swing for muley bucks by myself and make it on $1200. gas, tags, food, and all!

the day when Copenhagen cost more than a buck a can.

When puters first came out and i just knew i'd not care be one to ever learn how.

In 1969 when buddy and i each earned a nickle a bale to take 100 at a time from the field to stacked in the barn. When all said and done, i paid for my first bought gun with my earnings, a new Rem 700 25-06 with Redfield Widefield 6X,... and had school cloths money left over.

I use to remember when Salamanders, mice and piss ants were big game. BB guns shot 400 yds at 2800 fps. There was no fat chicks. And my pecker worked all the time. I have outlived my pecker. As Willie would say at 75

I also remember when I could bring my shotgun to school, leave my dog in the truck, let him out at lunch, bring him to Autoshop the last two periods of the day, tell my Economics teacher how I was going to beat him to his hunting spot with my wild, untrained dog because I was going to ditch last period.............Man those were the days.

I remember when gas was 22 cents a gallon during price wars. Put a bucks worth of gas in and drag main all night. Buy a hamburger for a quarter, fries for a dime and a drink for another dime, lunch for 45 cents in junior high. I was pizzed when twinkies went from a dime to 13 cents. When I started working minimum wage was 1.65 an hour. I bought my first brand new truck a 1975 Ford F250 4x4 for 6200 bucks out the door. My first house was 18,000 bucks. Bought a three year old 69 Firebird 400 for 1800 bucks (wish I still had that one). The list goes on and on, those were the good old days. Course with the wife and I both working we didn't make 10,000 bucks a year combined.

I always had guns in my trucl in highschool.

I remember when $5.00 could get me through the weekend in highschool.
$3.00 for a twelve pack (carefully split between Friday and Saturday night)
Get in the game for free with student body card on Friday.
$1.00 for the after game dance.
$0.75 for a movie on Saturday (which we usually got thrown out of) when we drank the second half of the twelve pack

+1 on that one

I had forgotten about matchbox's.. But I don't quite remember everything that might have happened in 1967 - 1970..

Those were my formative years..

I remember when I could hunt The
great state of Idaho as a nonresident
for deer for $145.00 and could see
about 10 mature deer a day in almost
all the units.

"Those were the days"

I remember when;

i could pay all my monthly obligations with one weeks pay and still have money left over.

my best friend paid $3200. OTD for a brand new Chev pickup with the money he got at the fair for his reserve champ FFA steer.

Grandpa and the other local rancher/farmers would take their family's "to town" when the crops were all in and the day the rains came. Good Times!!

Fenwick was about the best fishing rod you could buy

Dad with shotgun, snuck up on a old oak tree with "thousands" of wild pidgeons sitting in it. 3 shots, boom, boom, boom, not one feather. I never again saw my dad shoot, or even hold, a shotgun the rest of his life!

i slept on the floorboard at my grandmothers feet on the way to a high mountain lake for some trout fishing.

walking under the kitchen table and looking up, wondering at all the screws, clamps, gismos, and such

being upset because my little sister caught a catfish that dad kept but he threw my little bigger stripe bass back in

how high in the air Dad tossed and then gladly caught me, right after i shot my first buck.

You could buy sardines, anchovies, and clams, enough bait for a few guys to last a day or so, for a few dollars.

being a little guy, standing next to the big muley heads all layed out as my dad and uncles unpacked from their outa state hunts.

the first time Dad let me shoot his deer rifle, I killed a good buck with that shot. The gun's mine now...

Joey

I remember when if you had 7 pts for deer in Nevada you could draw almost anything you wanted.

I remember when a stamp was $.10

I remember when we had to use a pay phone and it cost a dime.

I remeber when gas went to a $1.00 a gallon.

I remember during deer season we would pass up on bucks and actually see bucks.

I remember when I was single, ouch that one hurt.

Slide

I remember when:

1) Gas was 45 cents a gallon

2) A roll of Copenhagen was $4.50

3) Condoms machines in public restroom were 25 cents.

4) 12 pack was $3.50

5) When you could hunt with out having to mortgage the house.

Slide your #5 brought a tear to my eye!

LAST EDITED ON Jan-27-09 AT 11:07AM (MST)[p]Yes Nvbigorn, that one does hurt. Growing up walking behind my dad I remember seeing all kinds of bucks. Now I take my kids and we are lucky to see a deer let alone a buck. It is very hard to get someone interested in hunting when you walk and walk and see no deer.

Really sad, I hope things change.

Slide

I remember when there were no cell phones.

I remember when a deer/bear/turkey license in NM was $12.50 over the counter.

I remember when you rarely saw a non-resident hunting in NM.

Ahhh.....the good ole days.

When all the geese fell to the blast of my shotgun Saturday and Sunday. I remember it was freaking cold wet and the geese landed in the Decoys. I was thinking eelgrass should have been there. He could have helped me pack them out. They were heavy. I remember they froliced like fat feathered pigs on the end of my gun barrel. Happy days till next year!
I also remember when I could figure out the application process for all 9 western states.
I remember when I knew my phone # and all my friends. But now I can't remember either of them. Let alone who she is.
Rutnbuck

I remember when going to a movie cost 30 cents, when a deer tag good for the entire state of Oregon was $2.00, and when girls wore nylons instead of pantyhose. :p

Before bonus points in Nevada, there was preferential status.
And before that, over-the-counter.

$.48 gas and the attendant actually ran out to the car. Washed the windows and checked the oil while pumping your gas.

Walking from my house to shoot quail and chukar....and now you have to drive at least 2 hours.
