This was my first year putting in for the draw in Arizona in 15 years. I am pretty bummed that I didn't draw for anything. I plan on hunting muleys with the OTC archery tag and javelinas in the spring. I have half a mind to head back up to Idaho (lived there for 5 years) and buy an elk tag OTC. Sitting in Arizona with a limited budget and a real bad case of wanttohuntitis, what would you suggest?

I was under the impression that you had to have some points built up in order to draw any decent tag in AZ. I never put in for AZ. I really should to build up points but they cost $$$.

True on the points, but I put in with my birdhunting partner. He had 3 points for deer, 10 points for elk, antelope, and bighorn.

We got zippo. Now I am wondering if I can find some other way to use my shiny new bow.

Welcome to Arizona. Now you know why us residents fought hard for the 10% NR cap to be put back in place. I hate to say it but you will not get a lot of sympathy because this is only your first year of applying. There are a lot of long time AZ residents who have not been drawn for many years.

By the way, the bird hunting friend of yours who had 10 points and he applied with you with zero points, he's a heck of a nice guy. I don't think there are too many people who would do that. He went from ten points to five due to applying with you. If I were you I would definatley buy his liscense and offer to pay for dinner next time. That is a heck of a sacrifice he made. Bonus points are like gold around here.

Better luck next year.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-25-06 AT 00:11AM (MST)[p]He is a good friend. We divulged our secret Quail spots (which if you find a good one, you know how sacred it can be). Next year, we'll have more bonus points and hopefully better luck. Not looking for sympathy per se, just hoping for any suggestions on decent OTC archery elk tags in the West (Idaho, Colorado, Montana, etc.).

My senior year of high school, I got talked into putting in for an archery elk hunt outside of Williams. I was the only person to put in for bull because everyone else said the odds were bad (which I am sure they were right). Anyhoo, I was the only one that got drawn. 17 years old, 0 years archery experience, I went out on a weekend and sat on a water hole just off of a dirt road. Wouldn't you know it...arrowed me a 5X5. Haven't bow hunted since. Guess I got spoiled, but I will be bowhunting a lot more now that I finally finished up with college.

Hey you can hunt the Kaibab for archery deer in Sept. Since everything has burned in the 12a east side the deer will be pushed to the food that is remaining on the west side. You might want to take a quick trip and scout it out. There are some dandy bucks in that unit. I have personally seen big ones and some even killed on the first day. I would at least hunt that!!! Ill be up there!!

i didn't get drawn for anything here in wyo either.
i'm a wyoming native and have only draw 2 buck antalope tags in my life.
i think the antalope gods are agenct me. oh well i normaly do better on elk and can go general for deer and elk.
i'm not big on hunting antalope but would like one to put in P&Y.
