Hunting antelope without burning points

So...I'm looking into options for hunting buck antelope DIY while continuing to build preference points. I'm nonresident and have hunted WY before. Am I correct in thinking the only way to do this is to draw on a 2nd choice (or lower) in the random draw? My thought is that I should consider NR Special Random to increase options. Then, knowing that a 2nd choice tag is going to be in an area with limited access, I'm also willing to consider paying for access if needed. My group (3 or 4 hunters) is not picky but would like to have opportunities at average bucks. Looks like areas like 16, 17, 21, 22, 23, 25 might be an example of something that could work. Given these parameters, I'd love to hear some input...PM if that's your preference. Thanks!

Yep, the only way to preserve your preference points and get a tag is to get it in the second choice draw or as a leftover. As you mentioned - virtually all of the areas where that is possible are predominantly private land. So, either be prepared to deal with crowds on very limited public land or find a ranch where you can pay a trespass fee. Most of the units you mentioned have leftovers but they all so fit the description above. I'd save the special license fee, get a leftover, and use the $300 toward a trespass fee. Most are running close to $500 for a decent ranch. GOOD LUCK
