Huge Oregon Rib Cage

A friend of mine found a very nice elk shed yesterday (it was last years drop). It's bigger than anything i've found, I shook his hand to congradulate him. It's pretty huge by Oregon Standards, I taped it out at 154....a nice 6 point and weighs about 14 or 15 pounds!!! The sickening part is that I seen this shed last fall during hunting season (actually I think gobs of hunters did) I mis-took it for a dead animal rib cage!!! It's actually funny because it was located just off a very busy hunting access road and I think everyone else looking out in this particular meadow mistook it for a dead critters bones (open range area)!!! It wasn't even a mile from the last house on this road. Needless to say, I am sick to my gut that I didn't have the brains to stop and give it a second look with my binocs'....like my friend did yesterday!!! I will be looking at dead animal bones untill the day I die from now on....probably never will be so lucky though!!! Guess he deserves it as he usually doesn't find much of anything.

Wish I was able to post some pictures, but I am not as high tech as a lot of you....don't even have the equipment.

What parts of Oregon are you in? I'm assuming east side. Bummer deal you didn't go and look at it.. I always go when I see white, could be a skull there ;-)

I've learned early in the game to ALWAYS investigate bone piles. Here's a pic of a skull my son and I found in Eastern Oregon while investigating a ribcage. The skull was about 75 yards form the ribcage.
