There appears to be a method to the gus that have the abiltiy to do good.

Being new at this went out a few times last year and did not find one. The only ones I have found has been during hunts/scouting in the fall. And just by luck.

I know the area is most important but where do you look? Bedding areas? Feeding areas? Water? Travel routes? All? Oh by the way talking Muley's

Also is there a method? Grid seach? Binos?

That all sounds good to me. They are almost always where you find them. And if you put all of your ideas to work, chances are you'll be bringin home the bone. Don't forget to preseason scout. You do it for hunting, do the same for shed hunting. Good luck and lets see some pics when you find some.

Pre scouting is one of the best for new shed hunters. After you find a area, year after year will produce more shed. Specially with elk. Elk will come back as long as they are alive or chased out of the area.
Dont give up with a area until you know there is nothing to be found. The hardest time for me is finding that first one bone to break the ice. After you find one you know what to look for. Day after day same thing. There could be a day I might find 20 or so and the next nothing.
Good luck.

I would have to agree with the other guys. Scouting is probably the biggest key to success. It sounds like your headed in the right direction. Just don't get discouraged if you don't find anything. I hiked my butt off last weekend and only found one small 4 point, but the trips when I had trouble carrying them all back to the truck make up for all of the bad days! Here is a picture of the one I found over the weekend.

I look for sheds where the deer winter. I also use my binocukars and glass, you will be surprised how many you will find this way. I also walk heavily used deer trails and feeding areas.

Good Luck
