How do you carry your Bow?

I was just curious....For those of you that do Spot and Stalk or Still Hunt; how do you carry or prefer to carry your bow if you are hunting all day for mulitple days on end?

I know some have slings, and some use backpacks and some just carry it by the string or grip, but don't some of these methods cause too much delay if the moment of truth just pops up or do they cause discomfort if carrying by the string or handle? How ready are you really, if using one of these methods?

Just curious of what works for you and what might possible work better for me! :)

Using just a strap from a gym bag or the like, i clip one end to the top cam and the other end on the left side of the riser (hooked to a zip tie). I put the strap around my back and the bow hangs in front of my chest or stomach. You can also swing the bow around to your back for climbing or scrambling.

When gearing up for a shot, I just unhook the top clip, on the cam, and shoot. Since I hold the bow with my left hand, the bottom clip allows the strap to be on the left side of the string, so it doesn't get in the way. The unclipped end of the strap usually just lays on my shoulder or is kept on my back via my pack or bino harness, so it doesn't just fall and hang from the riser.

Good topic. I look forward to hearing what you guys use.

Strapped to my pack until I reach my destination. String and grip until my left hand gets tired, string and grip till my right hand gets tired, repeat!

LAST EDITED ON Feb-26-08 AT 09:36PM (MST)[p]Funny the a gym strap was mentioned. I actually tried a rig with a strap from an overnight bag and attached it to my riser using velcro wire keepers used to keep cords bundled. My only problem is that the strap tends to slide more than I care for; around my shoulder and it takes a second to unclip from the velcro (can't just undo velcro and scare game ya know, even though that would be faster).

I Tried the hand carrying thing by the grip, but after a few hours of up and down, my left arm starts to feel a bit longer than the right. If I carry it with my right, I don't feel as prepared for a fast shot cause I gotta switch it back to my left from an upside down position. And by the string...I just feel it cuts into me and melts the string wax prematurely and risks smacking my sight into something.

Who knows, I guess??? Still curious on other methods and how efficient they are!

Pack till hunting area. Then just in my hand cuz its so much quicker to get to!

Hiking in and out in the dark I will have it strapped onto my pack, but when I go on a stalk I will either carry it by the string or by the grip. Then when I get within the 150 to 200 yard mark I will knock my arrow and have my realease hooked up. I have my rangefinder in one of my pockets in case I am able to range the animal (I will not take a 40 plus yard shot without ranging though). Really it all depends on the situation though.

I only strap it to my pack if I have a long hike in the dark. Then it spends most of the day on a bow hook on the waist belt of my pack, on the left side so I can get at it quickly.

When I pack into area or am simply spot-n-stalk hunting I carry my bow by hand. I do have the "hook" bow holder attached to my belt so I can safely & quietly hang my bow when I glass something.

I carry mine around by the handle or the string. I do have a clip on my pack belt that I can hang my bow from if I want to use both hands to glass something.
