How big of a Mule Deer is equal with a 400 inch Elk

Please share your thoughts on what would compare to a 400 inch bull. I brought this up in another thread and thought it would make an interesting poll.

I think it hard to compare the two. Are you asking to compare a 200" typical (with no extras) mule deer to a 400" 6x6 or 7x7 elk? I think trying to compare a 220" nontypical deer with a 400" typical elk is not a fair comparison.

I have a 200" typical that I wouldn't trade for a 400" 7x8 elk.
Now if the 400" elk was typical, then....

It depends on the 400" elk and the deer. A symmetrical 36" wide heavy 200" net typical muley would be superior to any 400" bull for me.
A heavy antlered symmetrical 400" 6 point would be preferable to a willow horned 230" nontypical muley.
A 250" nontypical muley vs a 400" elk would be a hard choice for me. I would just shoot both.

I think typical vs non- typical really matters here. 400" bulls are so rare in any areas other than a select few. 200"+ mule deer (non-typical) are really fairly common. I think a true 200 typical mule deer is on about the same level with a 400" bull. Both are pretty dang rare from my experience.

200 mule deer= 400 inch elk. Both are rare from finds on public land. Probably more 400 in elk walking the woods than there is 200 in deer.

Well, I did some math. Going off of 190 and 375 for B&C All Time, I get 202 for the equivalent of a 400 bull.

There are 4 typical elk past the 400 mark, and 11 typical mule deer past the 200 mark entered in the Nevada state record books.

Been damn lucky in my life. Killed two legit typical BC 400 inch bulls. Have seen 2 others.
Have seen/killed one 200 typical Muley.

IMO a 240 buck would make it a pretty hard decision. I might just have to pull the trigger on a 230 over a 400 inch bull. The amount of bone for a bull to score 400 inches is amazing.

My experience mirrors Cboys, only in my lifetime, I've seen maybe 5 legit 200" mule deer but I've never seen a true 400" bull elk in the wild.

A 6X6 to score 400 needs to average 20” per point, plus several other factors.
Very tough to do.
Not very knowledgeable about mule deer so have to defer there

I feel it's harder to turn up a 200 inch muley buck vs a 400 bull. That might not be true but sure seems that way. While I'd like to kill a 400 bull, I'd much rather shoot a big mule deer

I'm in the 400 elk camp, love hunting mules but elk are KING. In all my times in the woods I've only set eyes on one bull that would go 400, probably 4 mules topped 200 . Obviously beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Got 2 good muley hunts this year and unfortunately no elk hunts, my opinion might change. Lol.

A 400” bull elk is MUCH more rare then a 200” muley. I’d say if you looked at just straight gross and no regard to typical or non typical, there’s a similar amount of 225-230” Muleys killed each year as there are true 400” bull elk.

A lot just depends on where you are. In the last 10 years I have seen more 400 inch bulls than 180 bucks.
