Anybody else stupid enough like me to think this morning would be good on the Front? I haven't been that cold in a long, long time.

Speaking of which, my cables/string/cams froze up. Anyone have advice on how to keep that from happening (other than the obvious don't go out when it's below 0).

I also found out that if you bang your sights against a tree-the will shatter just fine!!

I went out on sunday and found myself 4 miles in and past my knees in snow and all I managed to see was a 30 inch buck that didn't fit the elk tag unfortunaly. With all of the clouds I ended up not seeing any elk which was a first for the first time in about 6 trips. I new where they were but couldn't will myself another mile and a half through the snow to get to them. I was hoping they had moved down with the snow but I guess not.As far as keeping the bow warm good luck. my handle was frosting up with my hand on it so unless one of your layers is your bow keeping it warm won't be easy.

I broke a piece on my sight too. It was a chilly one, but I've hunted up there in worse.

Elk on the wastach front = @ 500 ( literally:( )
Pete = 0

Pete, you are making me feel lazy!!! Any suggestions on the freeze-up? Do I just pull until it breaks free? I was worried that it might just break, so I didn't.

Pradator,
What brand of bow?
I would do as you mentioned and pull it loose.

I am sure that most of the reputable manufacturers put their bows in the freezer and test them in these kinds of conditions. It is not uncommon for them to be used in these conditions. The late season whitetail hunters sit through some pretty cold temps as well.

I know a guy that took his bow to the NW territories on a wolf hunt and he had temperatures that were a lot colder than the Wasatch was this morning. He ended up taking two wolves.

Good luck.

It was so cold my gloves were freezing to by bow handle. Saw one mature bull some 5 miles away tucked into a 3' snow drift, no bow hunter is going to kill that bull this year. I did pick up some new Cablea's(sp) performance fleece, wow talk about a warm coat, and I stayed dry all day.

I once shot my bow at -20 in Idaho, after the hunt I replaced my cables, as they started to crack, keep an eye on yours. Also, check your knock point and peep often when hunting, they will freeze with ice, when it's time to knock an arrow it will be hard, or loud.

For me Wastach 5 years - Elknut 0, I guess that's why I do it each year, that cold *%@#$%)(@ is really pissing me off.

try a bunch of wax on ur strings, i tend to overdo the wax a little bit, and it seems to work pretty good

Thanks fellas, but I'm done with the Extended. I'm quite frankly sick and tired of feeling like the only one obeying the law. Yesterday I ran into two cow hunters (rifle) with no orange. They felt vindicated in what they were doing because none of the archery hunters (besides me) were wearing it, either.

Oh and the guy in the white F250? Guess you didn't learn last year, did you?

I think that whomever you bought that stinkin bow from is who you should be pissed at!!!!

I wish I knew you were going up I have spent a few days on the mountain alone and I could always use a little motivation. Then again, you'd have to show me the secret places.

HA!! Nope, my own fault for not asking the much more experienced previous owner of the bow on how to deal with it....and the secret places I know need snowshoes now...but the bulls are still there. :)

Oh, and those cow hunters? We both know 'em. Very disappointing.
