Holster type for .38 pistol (police special)

Need to buy a holster for this type of pistol that will be comfortable when hiking, camping, riding 4 wheeler's, general recreation, etc. Would you recommend:
1. waist/belt holster
2. ankle holster
3. shoulder holster
4. other?

It would help if you gave a little more description of the pistol. Such as barrel lenght.

If the barrel lenght is 4 inches or less, I would go with a belt holster carried on your strong side for the activity you described. Make sure the holster has good retention for the ATV riding.

Yes, barrel is 4" or less.
