HIKING METHOD

Interested in seeing how your guys hiking methods are to find the best horns... also how many of you cut back or quit drinking soda to be more effective? Oh and WTF is up with the snow(GO AWAY ALREADY)!

i usually pack way more weight than i need to and hike away from the vehicle till i get tired, that way i HAVE to hike back no matter how tired i am. It kinda helps push me a little harder. I'm a firm believer that the more it hurts now the less it will hurt next time.

I just try to get away from as many roads as possible and get in farther than anyone else is generally willing to go (25+ mile days are not uncommon depending on the terrain)... I haven't had a soda in years so that's not a problem and I don't drink beer too often anymore either... And this snow sucks big time!

I drink the Vitamine water. Really quenches your thirst and sometimes I pack a little caffine to help keep me going.
As for how I look for sheds on the mountains.. I walk a grid up one side and down the other and then move on to the next drainage.

With the elk sheds I have found in the last couple of years, (which aren't very many) half of them were found through the binos and the other half I found by almost stepping on them (grid pattern in steep country far from any road) And yes this snow sucks! I take my I-POD with some good music to get me into the areas, I found I can hike quite a ways in a short time jamming to some tunes. I put the music away when I get to the shed hunting spot, makes for a peaceful day out in the hills. On the way out I'm always amazed at far I actually went in such a short time. Good music is like drinking ten Red Bulls for me, I get more accomplished and go further distances.
