high country deer hunting

So I think this year my dad and I should draw a Wyoming deer tag, and have the opportunity to hunt them in the high country. We will be backpacking in and camping for our hunt(assuming we draw). My question is for those of you that do this type of hunting, when pre-season scouting how long do you spend in one specific area glassing? When I go scouting I am planning on going for a few days at a time. Should I be spending full days in one drainage or try and glass as much country I can? I am not necessarily new to deer hunting but the back packing in multiple days is. Any info or tips is much appreciated!

I personally like to cover lots of ground and look at the most bucks possible. But, I've walked passed big bucks not knowing they were even there, so...... That would likely happen either way sometimes though. There?s a downside and benefit to each approach.
Taking it slower is probably more enjoyable for some.

LAST EDITED ON May-27-18 AT 09:19PM (MST)[p]I think it really depends on your physical abilities and your patience. I usually do overnight trips because I really don't like to sit around all day. Do to the heat in the summer months, the deer are usually only out a couple hours in the morning and a couple in the evening, sitting around from 9-6 can be a little rough. Over the years I have developed about 5 spots that I scout and hunt. I scout an evening and a morning and then cut out. I usually sit in one spot for the entire evening and another for the next morning. My best spots I will return to several time throughout the summer and you would be surprised how you can pick up different deer each time.
If you are interested, this is some of the better bucks that I have turned up in 2016-17. I've shared some of these deer in the past, some are dead and some I will be looking for this season. Good luck.

Thanks Founder! I Just read a couple articles you wrote After my initial post. There is a ton of great info in there That I will take to heart! I know its a little early yet but cant wait to get up there and try to figure things out!

Thanks for your insight Boomer! That video is freaking sweet! you clearly have a good grip on things. Hopefully in the upcoming months I will have some bucks of that caliber to post up as well. Thanks again man
