HEY FRIENDS! (Update and Seeking Advice!)

Hey guys and gals!

Last year I posted here about coming from Pennsylvania and hunting Unit 003!

It was a b*tch, but I managed to get what I wanted, and had a blast!!!!

This year I am looking at Unit 001 and am wondering the same things!

It appears the tags are super easy to get. It appears that public access is OK in the northern end. And it appears the harvest rates are A-OK!

I am wondering if anyone has some advice, and/or could give me some advice on what to avoid.

The upper aspect of 003/lower portion of 001 was absolutely mountainous, so I will be avoiding that, but the upper aspect of 001 by Montana appears flat?!

Can anyone confirm?

What chipc said x 1000! The only advice I'll offer to the OP is to take a hike and I'll not even wish him good luck because we don't need people like that on here!

There are some decent size bucks there, if you can find them. The topography varies, some areas are rougher and tougher to hunt than other areas. You will probably want to avoid the areas that don't have very good hunting. You?ll want to avoid killing a buck in a really deep canyon, because it may be hard to pack out. You?ll want to avoid trespassing on private lands and killing more than your limit. Early in the morning and late in the day are typically the best to hunt. Hunting during the rut can be productive. Good Luck to you.

First off, I don't consider the OP "my fellow hunter" when he pulls crap like that! Also, you obviously don't realize that your comment at me was to the person that very possibly gives out more help and information to others on this and another major website that anyone else I can think of, so I guess you can take a hike too! PS: Your "information" was about as useful as if you had been talking to a dog! PPS: Have some balls and at least put your name up in your profile if you're going to cut down others and preferably at least allow a PM to be sent to you so we don't have to post stuff to you out on the thread itself like I had to do to waste other member's time reading it!

I would like to add dont get to far from the truck without toiletries! Especially after eating Mountain house chilli!

My excuse is that my eyes were fully dilated from a major eye exam I had just got back from and I could hardly read, but I should have realized the joke, LOL! Yes, my best buddy has a place just north of the KOA campground and you can see the new gas station and interchange to the west from his place and close by is where Weatherby is putting up their new factory. Maybe I'll give you a call this fall, as I'll be out there from the end of August through October again like I am every year chasing elk, deer, and antelope. PS: No butt kicking though, LOL!

Geez Jeff, you would have to bring that one up again, LOL! Why do people think it's okay to park along Interstate Highways when there are signs in all the states that say parking is for emergencies only? Just because it might not be strictly enforced doesn't mean it's okay to do it!

Nope; I knew you were joking. However, it seems that our buddy in Laramie does it all the time and says everyone does it in Wyoming because it's not enforced and that's why I made my comments again. Anyway, records are made to be broken, LOL!
 
Why do you have to be a ##### about it?

I've been to Wyoming once in my entire life, and with the help of someone here last year, was successful.

You dont consider me a "fellow hunter" because I dont frequent the website?

I work 3 jobs and barely have time to post a question here, let alone spend all day replying to people with questions.

If anyone has a question, please ask.

I cant promise I'll get back to you this month, but I also wont be a monumental douche about it either.

You have 5 total posts, four of which are on this thread. That must mean the other post was your post from a year ago asking for help. So in a year you couldn't find time to even post about your hunt last season with a few pictures and a few thank yous for the help you received? Have I got that right?

Gomer, the part people find offensive is that you imply that you're busier than everyone else. You have no problem asking others to spend their time helping you out but you don't have the common courtesy to come back on here, tell us how it went or offer advice to others based upon what you learned on your trip. THEN, despite the fact that you "work 3 jobs , etc, etc,..." and can't come on here and offer anything you somehow find time to make several more posts defending your lack of participation or assistance to others. Understand ?
 
What a waste of time reading this post. Not sure if it's a joke or not. Is senator Simpson still alive?
 
I must have missed the post or message where someone was asking me for help regarding a self guided hunt in another state they've never been to.

Never would I think I'd be getting shot for not being on the internet, specifically this site, checking in with people.

My post literally started out with how it went last year.
 
I have to say, even though a couple posts in this thread were funny, I think it's terrible the way Gomer was treated just for not being a regular poster on the site. He asked a question in a respectful way and I think he deserves respect. If you don't want to give any advice, then just don't post on his thread.
 
Gomer not saying you were right with posting how you did but there is unspoken etiquette on forums like this which was broken. Friendly piece of advice. Don?t be the guy always asking for help and not posting on other non help related topics. If you are busy with three jobs I'd probably recommend looking at consulting groups like huntinfool, gohunt, epic, Eastman?s , etc. the busy guys that don't have time to research and post, is their customer. Fairly inexpensive and won't criticize you for only seeking help. Good luck on your hunts this year.
 
If people were friendly I could see the guy possibly wanting to contribute more in the future. He wasn't given a chance.
 
I will also say, as non resident hunters, even guys that have been hunting for 20 plus years sometimes don't have a lot to add until they get more hunts under their belt. They use forums for a learning curve, whether its tactics or just a general direction, guys shouldn't be crucified for that. I try to help where possible, but I know there are guys to lean on with a wealth more knowledge than I have...and for that I am grateful

Now there's a great post - with that kind of attitude I'm sure someone is going to get you all dialed in and put you into your next successful hunt.

I had a blast, and it's a shame to see these tough guys treat people like this.

Maybe one day someone will return the kindness to their kids and family members.

So you have time to help all these other people "do what you have done in Wyoming" but not a minute or 2 to log in and share your hunt, where did you find all these other guys/gals to help? or the time with 3 jobs?

good luck in unit 1, any public will have hunters throughout the season, but with enough time you can make it work, but with all your knowledge of unit 3 why switch?

He can be an ass sometimes but he has helped a lot of people that have done a little homework before asking to be spoon fed Info. You are right tho MM aid probably the most hostile hunting forum out there which is sad.

Forums and social media is increasing easier access to more info and guys that do just come to use people should be called to the carpet for their BS. I think if the OP had posted SOMETHING in between his two asking for help
Posts it would have been a much different response.

To the comments made by nontypical: All I will say is that I don't need to send you a PM to tell you to stick it where the sun don't shine because you've been on here a long time just like a number of others to know that probably 99% of my thousands of posts have been to help others! God knows how many PMs and emails have also been sent to help others and that takes personal time that I'm happy to spend IF the person shows common courtesy on the net!!! Anyone that says anything negative about me on this thread needs to realize how many people there are out there like this OP guy that never helps anyone on a site, but want everyone else to help them. It's common now in our society that the only thing a person is thinking about is themselves and it shows itself when we're driving, on the net, etc. If a fairly new person comes on and at least shows they have been doing their homework, I'll always help them out, but not a guy like the OP that comes on and asks for help on his first post with nothing to show that's he'd done any work on his own and then has the balls to not come back for a full year and do the same thing on his second post. Therefore, I'll not apologize for a thing I stated earlier on this thread and if you'll please excuse me I now have to go on another site I frequent to help two more guys, one that's asking for help on a Wyoming deer hunt he's trying to plan for himself and his buddies and the other who's trying to set up a decent antelope hunt without using his 4 PPs!
 
He only comes on here once a year max, but he did start out with "HEY FRIENDS!".....our good buddy from Pennsylvania....lol

In case you didn't get enough information from the preceding posts, I decided to put a little general NE WY antelope hunting info together, for you and any other hard-working souls.

Here's WGFD's map of that unit.

It will get you onto the larger and smaller blocks of public land. Accessible means touching a county road, or a state or US highway.

I recommend a mapping app or GPS with public land maps for all the NE Wyoming units. OnXmaps is fine, some people use other ones, but you need one you can use offline.
I use a cheap one on my android phone called Backcountry Navigator Pro. It was $7, and another similar amount for the Wyoming map pack. I download layers ahead of time. It lets me do simple GPS waypoints and tracks. You can use the GPS while being in Airplane Mode to help save your phone battery.

For hunting, I carry a backpack big enough for a quartered antelope, game cleaning kit, food, water, first aid kit, rifle and my binos/rangefinder and if I'm feeling energetic, my spotting scope. I usually go for a 3-15 mile hike, at least 1 mile from the nearest road access. You escape pressure and find antelope that haven't been thinned by prior hunters. I try to wait til the 2nd or later week of the season to avoid competition as well, if that's an option. Antelope start dropping sheaths in November, so don't wait too late in 1 through 5.

I was simply making an observation. I don't view the OP like you do at all. I definitely don't get from the one post that he's a db, and I also can't say that he's dumb. You, and others, blew this completely out of proportion. He asked one simple question. He didn't ask where or when to hunt. He only asked if anyone might have an idea what the terrain is like in his chosen unit. Is that not what forums like this are for? To ask for help? What's the purpose of a forum such as this if a guy can't come on here and ask a question? I don't get it.

Let's look at what he asked. The one and only question was this:

The guy made just one post on here a year ago asking for help and never had the courtesy to come back even one time until now he's on here a year later asking for more help! That is not the way Forums are run where a person just comes on asking for help and makes no attempt to reciprocate or even come back with a thank you to those who gave them help! Over on Eastmans website they even ask as a part of joining to introduce one's self first in a new member Forum and to then become active on the Forums before even asking for help. That is essentially the unwritten rule on every other website I visit. If nothing else, look at the several posts the OP made on here in response to being called out about it. None were in the slightest bit saying he was sorry, but rather sorry excuses along with blaming all of the members.
 
There are worse things than what he did. He could've come on here and said he voted for Hillary Clinton. But he didn't.

If I was familiar with the unit he asked about, I would've told him if it's flat or not. Doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

Now you're really stretching things to try to get your side across and it certainly doesn't compare with voting for Hitlery LOL! Asking people for information twice over a year with no other posts and doing nothing reciprocal or even putting up a thank you post is not the way hunting forums work and it's too bad that you don't seem to understand what most of us are saying on this thread. The guy could have easily called up Google Earth and in a couple minutes answered his question himself, but he chose to ask others to do all the work for him! That's a nono that you can't seem to understand, so we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one!

Name one other website that we're both on and prove it with a post of mine there that started trouble! You can't do it because you're full of it and don't post anything here but negative BS just like you're doing on this thread!
