I have a dozen goldtips that shoot great with field points. Half of them are shooting my bh's great, the other half are a little inconsistent. They are the same fletching, nock, arrow within 3-4 grains tolerance. Any advice? Balance does not seem to be an issue. I put them on a spinner. I have thought about putting the quick spin fletchings on the bad arrows and see if I can change them up a bit. What do you think? Thanks guys.

no idea, but when you figure it out I would like to know what the problem was.

Which broadhead are you shooting... the only fixed BH that work with my gold tips are Wack-ems.. the steel heads 100's expandables also work very well with my gold tips.

Try rotating your arrow nocks on the ones that aren't grouping well. Sometimes a quarter or half a turn will bring them back into the group.

I don't know for sure without looking at the arrows but i would guess that you need to align the bh's with your fletches check the ones that are flying good and use them for a referance. You cannot rotate your nocks a quarter or a half of a turn because the fletches would not clear then. If ya need more help let me know. Bowhuntinnut

If you have a drop-away rest you will be able to turn your nock. I usually have the same problem that you have with a dozen arrows. I first try turning my nock since I have a drop away. Then I try swapping broadheads with known good flying broadheads. And last I try both new nocks and inserts. If none of that works the arrow stays a practice arrow forever. I usually am pretty happy when I can get atleast 8-9 hunting arrows out of a dozen arrows. These arrows are only shot with broadheads and verified a few times just before the hunt.

Some arrows just don't fly good.

Hope this helps.

Yep your right Idahobugler, i guess you can turn your nocks if you use a drop away i did not think of that because i do not shoot a drop away rest. Sorry for the brain fart on my part.

bowhunt - No sorry needed. You are absolutely right. If he doesn't shoot a drop away he will not be able to turn his nock (very much). Very good advise.

Good hunting.

Another goofy way to tune them together is to strip the fletching and shoot them bare shaft. Rotate the nocks until they all hit in the same place. Any that won't go in the same spot, replace the nock and try again. If they won't group use them for stump shooting. You will get two or three bad ones per dozen usually.

Once you get them all grouping as bare shafts, then fletch them up the same. Test again and refletch those that aren't grouping.

This is a very common technique for olympic recurve archers where the ACE or X10 arrows cost between $250 and $350 per dozen.

I didn't see which broad head you were using, but if it's Muzzy's that part of the problem right there. Muzzy is a great broad head, but has the weight way further forward than a field point. This can send your arrow out of spine tolerance very easily. Go up a spine weight if this is the case and you should be able to get them all to fly together.

Cheers,
Pete
