Help w/Region K ???

First off, I am from Utah. Some of you may already know this. I am inquiring about Region K. Why..?? Because my dad has 5 PP for WY and wants to hunt it this year before he feels too old. (I hope he doesn't read that). We don't think Region G is doable for him as he is now 63 and has some health issues to consider.

As such, we are wondering about Region K. Granted, there is likely to be winter kill this year, but otherwise, I'm hoping to get some pointers on the area. It's an area that we can get to easily from Utah, and for my dad, I've heard would be "easier" to hunt.

I'd appreciate any input. Should we put in together..?? Would we both draw tags..?? Could we find some 4-point bucks..??

Should he go ahead and get a Region G tag even if he can't hunt the high country..??

Plenty of low country in G to hunt. Look at areas that open oct 1st. Many times the big bucks have already pushed out of the high country anyhow and can be found in the lower country.

Fault is right. In my opinion your best option would be to hunt the low country in G. If you are really set on hunting K, send me a PM and I will give you some places to start looking. Expect a lot of other hunter and a lot of does.

There used to be an outfitter in G that consistently got his clients big bucks. They never hunted farther than a mile from the road.

Everyone goes to the high Country because its easier to spot the bucks. Harder physically though.

Theres some sagebrush country in G that holds bucks that would make you wet your pants. Its not physical like the high Country, more mental.

Region K should be changed to region C...for crap. Region Crap.

Hey Jason, I have hunted K twice. Shot a 176 4 x 6 and a little 4 point. However, last time I hunted it the access was horrible that I told myself I would never hunt it again. Give me a call if you want.

That low country sagebrush tip in G mentioned above would be as good a shot as any for an older gentleman. Lots of looking but you might like what you find. Good luck !

If your Dad draws and you want some advice. Let me know. Region K was very good at one time. But like mentioned above it is very bad now, terrible even. I find it interesting that Region G is headed in that same direction. And no one seems to care. G & K border each other, is that not writing on the wall. When this winter is over, it will be the fewest Deer there has ever been on the WY range. That doesn't mean I wouldn't put in. I think things will continue to get worse. Good luck.

I appreciate the feedback guys. I think we will most likely be going with G since he has 5 PP. We enjoy hunting lowland sage brush and if we can get into an area like that, we'd be excited to give it a go.

Should we be worried about private property in the lowlands..??

Should we stay south in 135 or further north in 143..? We'll have to go through our maps and Google Earth to check it out. Most likely take a trip or two up there this spring/summer.

I've hunted the low sage in 135 a couple of times. I missed a 170 class buck 2 years ago and shot a decent heavy 4x3 last year. There are some good bucks available not far from the roads if you know where to look.

If they cut tags back in G, will 5 pts still get a tag...
