Hey all,

I have wanted to hunt archery mule deer for years during the rut.

I have learned some about NM but am looking for any advice or tips. I see that NM has late season archery deer hunts, but have no idea how the draw system works, units to look at, etc.

I love areas that are rough, hard to reach, etc. I am really looking for an area that will hold 160ish bucks.

I am just looking now trying to figure out application for next spring. I am not sure how the system works in NM and any help is great. If you need any help on CO, I am very knowledgeable about the NW part of the state...

Thanks for any help.

the first thin you got to do is go to the game and fish website and set you up an account. its free and then when you are going to put in you will log in and put down where you want to hunt its really easier when your doing it than someone telling you.how long have you lived here its 90days to be a resident

It's really simple. Just go to the link below and set up an account. The system is real easy to use IMO. No bonus or preference points in this state so it's the same odds for everyone each year.

As far as unit, you'll need to decide that for yourself. Most units in New Mexico can produce a 160ish deer. The question is how many and how hard you are willing to work for them. Plenty of research can be done on the F&G website by downloading the 2012-13 drawing odds report and then the 2010-2011 deer harvest report. Using both these documents should guide you to some good units.
