I thought the same thing. Either its a setup or the buck was shot and ran out in the field and died without being found.

Not sure if someone posted it here, but outdoor writer posted a video on another site showing a WT with a giant chunk of his front shoulder and back missing, he was alive in the video which was from a trail cam. The consensus seemed to be he was bedded when a combine came along.... looked pretty brutal.

We’ve actually had that happen taking corn out years ago , none of that size but man let me tell you it scares the crap out of a guy !!!! And what a mess it is !
