Had a quick question about using coal in a wall tent. Has anyone ever burned coal in there wall tent/wood burning stove? I can get 100 lbs for $10.00 and it will save a lot of room in my truck & the area Im hunting has very few trees in the area so I would have to hual all of my wood 5.5 hrs. I was told that that coal burns very hot and could burn a hole in my stove. I thought I could put some type of grate in the stove to keep the coal off the bottom. thanks for any advice

You're right, you need a grate to burn coal and also needs to be a heavy duty type stove, not sheet metal. I use a Cylinder Stove and have their coal grate, which works great. Some guys also line the bottom of their stoves with sand, but I've never gone that far.

Can I ask where you're finding coal for that price?

I don't know about coal, but when wood is scarce we have used duraflame logs to heat a large wall tent. They give off pleanty of heat, burn a long time, and are clean and easy to truck in. Just another thing for you to consider.
