hd or not

after a long search i have decided on either a vortex viper or the nomad. is there really a difference between the regular lenses and the hd. is the couple of hounderd dollers worth it

Absolutely HD. When it comes to Vortex optics the HD is head and shoulders better than the non HD. I had the nomad, and it was an ok scope, I now have the Razor HD and there is absolutely no comparison. I realize I am not comparing apples to apples with my example, but it is a real world experience answer to your question.

Good to know about different models. I know the only difference on the Swarovski is that HD pics through a spotting scope look better other than that no reason to have HD.

With swaro scopes the HD helps with color, not just digiscoping. Generally speaking, the more expensive the scope, the less difference between standard and hd...imo
