I received a letter today from FNAWS dated March 31, 2004 saying that they had recently been notified by GSC/Ovis that they were taking the action of terminating their long-term relationship with FNAWS. No discussions prior to the notification.
The letter states that GSC/Ovis was not able to survive financially from their fund raising efforts at the FNAWS Convention, despite the support of FNAWS by providing them with services expense free.
Then was informed that they, GSC/Ovis will be holding their own Convention and no longer have any use for the FNAWS support. Dennis Campbell has also chosen to resign from the FNAWS Board of Directors.

Was signed by Jeff Reynolds, Chairman and Royce "Woody" Wood- Chairman

Yep, looks like FNAWS sent that letter to all of it's members. At least that puts out one side of the story to the membership.

I'm a life member of both organizations.

I can't understand why they would split up and end up with less power and control of funding and projects or lobby power with congress ect............

I'm way interested in reading the GSC/Ovis explanation of what their reason for this is.

What a shocker!! It will be interesting to hear the reasons behind this. On the surface, it seems to not make sense.

I e-mailed all the Board and the CEO of FNAWS asking for the details....nobody gave me a reply. What I find confusing is Mr. Butch Kuflak. He's a member of both boards. Is that now a conflict of interest? Will he have to resign from either the board of FNAWS or GSC/Ovis?

Will the two organizations now have a policical battle over the state auction tags? Which convention will be the bigger draw?

With so many questions, I guess we'll have to wait for the dust to settle and see what the future holds. I don't see how two seperate organizations with a less than friendly working relationship can be good for sheep and sheep hunters. (Just my 2 cents).

It's been pretty well covered now by that Wild Sheep magazine, Grand Slam magazine and a bulletin from The Hunting Report have all been published.

I guess I'm out of the loop. I thought I read the latest GSC mag cover to cover, but I missed it. I let my FNAWS membership expire and I don't subscibe to the "Hunting Report." They say ignorance is bliss, but I've got to tell you, it hurts sometimes.

Buckspy... probably havn't gotten the latest GSC/Ovis Spring issue. Got mine last week and the split- GSC convention is covered, can't miss it. Convention will be in Miss.

Thanks Ramdreamer, for posting that Hunting Report link. I am not a subscriber.
I was wondering when this would surface on MM.com. I have read the letter in FNAWS & what Dennis Cambell wrote in GSC/OVIS.
Looks like a smart business decision to me by GSC/OVIS, The Grand Slam Club is thriving! They are definatly growing. Just feel the weight of the Spring 04 issue, it feels more like a Cabelas Master Catalog.

High5,

No problem. I sure would love to have posted Don Causey's interviews. Dennis and Grand Slam Club / Ovis is really upbeat about things. The convention is a "have to be there" event for ANY 3/4 slammers. There are two drawings for 3/4 Slammer attendees (one Friday night and one Saturday night) PLUS a 3/4 Slammer raffle to be drawn on Sunday. Three different chances to complete a slam (no matter what species is needed - Rocky, Desert, Dall or Stone). Pretty mind boggling along with the other incredible raffles.

For anybody that hasn't seen the convention info, it's at www.grandslamclub.org or www.wildsheep.org

I read the blurb Cambell wrote in the latest GSC mag and I have to say that it is a little short on details. I personally wonder how two organizations could be more effective than one, especially in light of the idea that you are competing directly or indirectly for the same donations and membership base. I have no vested interest in either group and would like to see both succeed in sheep conservation and population propagation.
