I NORMALLY DON'T TAKE MY KIDS UP TO GET A CHRISTMAS TREE UNTIL DECEMBER 15TH ON SNOWMOBILES!!!

((( LAST DAY THE PERMIT IS VALID USUALLY!!! )))

I HEAD UP OVER THE TOP OF BLINDSTREAM & BACK DOWN OFF THE OTHER SIDE A WAYS IN TO A LEGAL AREA TO CUT A TREE!!!

WE CUT A TREE & HEAD BACK FOR THE TRUCK!!!

AT THE ARTA LAKE INTERSECTION ON THE WAY BACK I SEE 3 WHEELER TRACKS ON TOP OF MY SNOWMOBILE TRACKS BUT THEY HEADED TOWARDS ARTA LAKE!!!

SO'S I TAKE THE TREE CLEAR BACK TO THE TRUCK & THEN HEAD BACK TO ARTA LAKE TO SEE WHO THIS JOKER IS???

I FOLLOW HIS TRACKS & I CAN SEE WHERE THEY HAD BEEN OFF THE 3 WHEELER & FOLLOWED EVERY RABBIT TRACK FOR A WAYS!!!

I CATCH UP WITH THEM,A GUY & HIS SON,I TALK TO THEM & HE PROUDLY TELLS ME HE'S HUNTING COW ELK!!!

I NICELY TOLD THEM THEY WERE WAY TOO HIGH & THE SNOW WAS WAY TOO DEEP TO BE ANY ELK AT THIS ELEVATION!!!

((( ELEVATION IS 10,000-12,000 FASL!!!)))

THE GUY GOT PISSED AT ME & SAID:::

DON'T TELL ME THERE AIN'T NO ELK IN BACK BY ARTA LAKE,WE WERE HERE IN JULY & SEEN SEVERAL ELK!!!

IF THE SNOW HADN'T OF BEEN CRUSTED THEY'D OF NEVER EVEN GOT THAT 3 WHEELER EVEN CLOSE TO WHERE THEY WERE!!!

((( IF THEY'D OF FELL THROUGH THE SNOW THEY'D OF BEEN THERE TILL SPRING!!! )))

SO I WENT TO LEAVE & THE GUY ASKS ME IF I'M GONNA RIDE MY SLED CLEAR TO ARTA LAKE,I SAID YES I AM,HE SAID WILL YOU LOOK FOR ELK TRACKS,I BIT MY TONGUE & SAID YA I'LL LOOK FOR ELK TRACKS!!!

I WENT TO ARTA LAKE TURNED AROUND & HEADED BACK,WHEN I MET THEM AGAIN I STOPPED & INFORMED HIM (BITE MY TONGUE AGAIN!!!)THERE WASN'T ANY ELK TRACKS UP THIS HIGH,WELL HE GOT LIPPY WITH ME AGAIN AND SAID::: DON'T TELL ME THERE AIN'T ANY ELK UP HERE,WE JUST STOPPED & LOOKED AT SOME ELK TRACKS A FEW HUNDRED YARDS BACK!!!

SO I WISHED EM LUCK & I STOPPED WHERE THEY'D BEEN OFF THEIR 3 WHEELER & FOLLOWED THE TRACKS THEY THOUGHT WERE ELK TRACKS,DAMNED IF THEY WEREN'T RABBIT TRACKS!!!

THE SNOW WAS 7'-10' FOOT DEEP AND REALLY CRUSTED ON TOP AND THIS JOKER & HIS KID THOUGHT I WAS BULLSHITTIN THEM ABOUT NOT BEING ANY ELK THAT HIGH!!!

WHEN I GOT BACK TO MY RIG I THOUGHT ABOUT CALLING AUTHORITIES & AT LEAST LETTING SOMEBODY KNOW WHERE TO LOOK FOR THESE JOKERS!!!

FRICK!!!

JUST WHEN YOU THINK YOU'VE SEEN IT ALL!!!

Sorry I don't have any stories to tell but in reading this and the Darwin awards makes me rethink my position on mandatory sterilization in justified cases.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-21-08 AT 08:53AM (MST)[p]does this count, my son and his budy take my truck huntin turkeys, they decide to smoke a joint, I get a call, he says were stuck on a steep side hill, i get there in time to see my truck, in slow motion roll upside down on the hood, not much damage right, only problem it rolled into a narrow drainage and the tow trucks gotta drag my truck out on its hood!

bobcat would like this one. drove my atv 200-250 yards up a steep sage covered hill. Yes i was on the road, was all legal. Did i say the hill was steep? after much slipping and sliding i make it to the crest of the hill. Put it in neutral (dont ask me why, i don't know) and put on the front brake. Got off the atv, grabbed the pack and started walking towards the other side of the hill. The brake could have used some adjustment. I watch like it was in slow motion as the atv rolled backward out of sight. I get to the road just in time to see it hit a big rock about 30 yards down the hill, causing it to become almost airborn. Then it rolled, and rolled, and rolled. I don't have that ATV any more. the brake on my new atv works great.

I've got several of these stories, but most of them involve me so I think I will sit back and let some other people talk and if I see one that is about me, I will get it deleted!

Another General Public Stupidity Story....
Many years ago my buddy and I were fishing at a desert lake outside of Phoenix(Pleasant). It was summer and very hot so we had a habit of getting to the lake about an hour before dark and fishing until well after dark.

Well we were bass fishing along the lake, probably around 9:00 or 10:00 o'clock, when he heard a couple of people yelling for help. They sounded like they were in the middle of the lake. We slowly took our boat out further into the lake and eventually came up on 2 bobbing heads in the lake. A boy and girl, both appeared to be in their early 20's. As we approached they explained that they had been on their sail boat, a Catamaran, and had decided to jump off for a swim. Unfortunately there was a sufficient light but steady breeze that their boat wondered off without them. They started yelling when they realized they could not catch or keep up with the boat.

As luck would have it, they were skinny dipping. At first the girl, who as I recall was very attractive, expressed relunctance to our picking her up to get into our boat. However we really did not have anything for her to wear. So she gave my buddy and I a hand and we, for her safety as I sure you can understand, slowly raised her into the boat. Funny it did not take nearly as much time to haul the boy on board.

I do not really remember how lucky we were at catching fish that night, but that trip has always been one of my favorite Arizona summer fishing memories.

A few years back, I was elk hunting with 2 of my sons in south central wyoming. We were driving back in on a small road for the evening hunt when we met 2 hunters walking down the road. We stopped and they asked us if we had seen a red pickup parked back down the road. When we said no, they looked very disapointed. They said they had gotten out of their truck to folow some tracks and now didnt know which way to go to find it. After we asked them about where they had parked, they remembered a road sign for an intersection near their truck. We showed them on the map where their truck was and they weren't very happy as they had about a 6 mile walk if they stayed on the roads. As they had neither a map, compas or gps, I figured that was the only way they would ever find their way back. I felt a little guilty for not giving them a ride but we had already taken enough time getting them unlost. As it turns out the delay cost my son our only chance at an elk for that trip and he said if he had known that he wouldnt even stopped to talk to them and they may still be looking for their truck.

GP - Got paged to a "woman who fell in the wilderness area" one July day. It poured rain, then hailed, was sunny, then hailed again. This lady was 3 and a half miles in and 3,000 vertical feet up...are you ready for this? Wearing a t-shirt, sweatpants and SLIPPERS!! She decided it was a good idea to try and scale some rocks with her awesome climbing gear. WTF?

LAST EDITED ON Oct-11-08 AT 11:23AM (MST)[p]This one time....

Roy and a couple of his buddies decided to go fishing. They were having a great time, but the rocks they were sitting on just weren't comfortable enough and they wanted to be closer to the water. So, Roy decides to drive a little further down. He was going to turn the truck around and back up to the lake so they could sit on the tailgate.

Well, since I wasn't there, I'm not sure how it happened, but somehow Roy drove that truck right into the lake. Yep. My dad's pickup was in Red Fleet Reservoir and he was NOT a happy camper.

Roy...fill us in on the rest of the details, would ya? lol

Another stupidity story. This involves boy scout leaders in the back country (what a surprise, eh?)

My grandparents were heading in from a week long pack trip into the back country on horses up above U-Bar Ranch. As they're heading in, they passed a troop of boy scouts heading in for a week of hiking fun. When they reached the trailhead, my parents were there waiting for them to pick them up, and they noticed a kid sitting on the side of the trail over in the grass. This kid was just 12 or 13 years old and is obviously very upset and all alone. So, my dad went over and asked the kid what was going on.

It seem he had gotten sick on the way up and his leaders had told him to wait for them at the trailhead. They went on alone and left the kid sitting there! They weren't going to be back for another week.

So, my grandparents took him home to Vernal and called his parents. They lived in Salt Lake, but they made it to Vernal to get their son bright and early the next morning. They were just sick that this had happened to their son.

Idiot scout leaders!
