Good topic. I still hunt in places where several towns used to be and are now gone here in Wyoming. Hard to believe, but the county where I live and the one next to us had their peak population in 1030. After the depression, our population never got back to what it was in the 1920's. And that's fine with me. Towns like Meadowdale, Slater, Dwyer, Carbon, and more are haunts I go to every year.

Back in the mid 1960's a friend told me about an old town that was supposed to exist somewhere up Elk River. One day, on a lark we decided to hike up the river to see if we could find it, or see if it was just a rumor.
We hiked a couple miles and found an old rail road bed. It was all over grown and barely visible but we followed it for another couple miles. Soon we found an old wooden building but the brush was so thick you couldn't see but one building at a time. You just had to wander around and run into them.
We found one building that must have been a school house. It had tables and benches, a wood stove, and even the books were still on shelves. We may or may not have taken a couple books.
Years went by and there was an article in the news paper about the old town of Falk, up Elk River. The timber company that owned the land was burning the remnants and there was a big uproar. They have a modern trail up there now, but I've never been back.
