I'm thinking about getting a ghillie suit for archery hunting. But I'm concerned it might get in the way when I draw my bow. What are your experiences? Are they OK, or should I forget it?

Where are you hunting? Are you hunting from a tree stand? What techniques are you going to be using?

I hunt in open counrty. Mostly grass and sagebrush. Almost entirely for mule deer. I shot a whitetail from a tree stand last year. Sat there a total of 2 hours and it wil be my last sit. I'm a spot and stalk hunter. It's what I enjoy.

I'll be hunting in eastern Wyoming and possibly in the plains of Alberta, and maybe even the grasslands of Nebraska. But all plains type country and trying to either sneak in on a buck or sit and wait on the ground while one I see coming goes by. No alfalfa or wheat, just brush and grass. Not hardly any trees either.

Ghillie suits are pretty bulky. You would have to cut of most of the jute/burlap on the arms and chest to be safe. I made one last year. Can't beat the hiding ability, but the mass and weight are downfalls. They have "bowhunter kits" you can buy ow a days. Look om ebay, they usually have good deals on kits or whole suits.

Thanks. I'll check it out. I know they are bulky and figured it would take some trimming to be able to pull back and shoot my bow. And I only plan to wear it when I'm set up by a travel route or in the closing part of a stalk. They are way too hot for normal September hunting like I'll mostly be doing.

But they are still easier to pack than a Double bull blind. :)

As most have said, they are very bulky. I use one to predator hunt with my .223, but for bowhunting there is just too much to catch on things... The one I bought is very lightweight, synthetic materials and matches the western terrain where I hunt.

Hot, heavy, bulky, and pretty loud when on a stalk. I have one, and have used it in the past, but mostly for predators or photography. I would not recomend one for bowhunting. just too much to carry around.
If you do use one DO NOT SMOKE IN IT!!!! if your a smoker. Every year somebody dies, or gets seriously burnt in one when the smoke lights up the burlap. Lots of guys in long range tac rifle comps wear them and its usually at those outings i hear about a guy standing around smoking, and poof! they go up fast.

When in doubt, floor it.
