General elk tags in Res draw report

Can someone explain to me why there is a general section at the bottom of the resident draw report. Why would it show total tags 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices for a general tag for residents? What am I missing?

You can apply for a general tag in the draw. I always put it as my second/third choice.

I won't be a res until the 2025 season so I am ignorant as to how it works as a res, but what is the purpose of putting in for a general tag in the draw? Is the 22265 a cap and putting in the draw ensures you get one?

I can’t speak to the psychology of that. For me it just saves me from a trip to the emporium to get one the night before the opener.

Ah ok. That makes some sense. I'm already starting to research the draw for next year as a Res, so just want to make sure I'm not missing something important that I did not know.

Also there is a quota even for resident general tags. It's just never even been close to met

That quota is to facilitate issuing the licenses. It's meant to not ever be met.
